Mike Wallace

Agreed, would be nice to see play calling to the strength of the talent. I am reluctant to completely right Wallace off, however I am struggling to think of a less physical football player.

Mike Wallace demonstrated the ability in Pittsburgh to go up and be physical to get the football. I'm not saying he is great on contested catches, but he's shown he can do it.

So yeah, I don't know what the hell is going on, but our offense is a hot mess and I think scapegoating Mike Wallace, the QB, or even the OL is too simplistic. Pass protection was acceptable for most of Monday night's game. Tannehill played pretty well overall, IMO. Rishard Matthews was great. It seems like if it's not one thing it's another. Charles Clay dropping passes left and right, Mike Wallace drops one, Tannehill misses a pass. It's like there is just no damn margin for error, and this is a team that is error prone across the board.

Other people have noticed this but it really is puzzling to me how we do such a crummy job of getting guys into space and designing plays that will spring someone open. It's like the entire offense is designed for Ryan Tannehill to squeeze a football through a thimble on every damn dropback.

and i got killed for saying when we got him and let bush walk that we were essentially swapping chunk plays / play-making ability and the net result would be about the same - 8 TDs gone, 8 in. I wanted to see these guys stacked - not one or the other. No disrespect to Hartline, Gibson, Clay, Matthews but they aren't game changers. Heck, we could still have Brandon Marshall and Mike Wallace and Reggie Bush - and I bet we'd be 7-2 right now. But our FO just doesn't get it. Philbin just doesn't get it. Wallace is taking the top off the D which is why Gibson and Matthews are excelling - but the possession stuff isn't going to win games - need big plays to mix in. Having more than 1 big play guy is critical - see NO, Denver, NE, Detroit and every other team that scores a lot of points. Until we can stack playmakers we will continue to be mediocre at best...

The Dolphins staff has the inability to use any player to their strengths...

Wallace has made little to no difference . So far seems like we over paid by like 40 million .
There are 41 other players with more yards. 40 with more receptions.
106 with more tds. The bad thing is he is the 16 most targeted player in the league.
I guess Pittsburgh chose to keep the right guy

In his defense, it doesn't help that Tannehill consistently underthrows to him.

You can probably add another 4 touchdowns to his total if some of those balls actually hit him in stride.

maybe but he has had his share of drops. He is very one dimensional

Agreed. But if you notice (unless I am remembering wrong), a lot of those drops are on inside routes, mainly in traffic. As stated earlier, we are apparently trying to use him as a possession receiver and he is not that guy. He is the homerun guy, and when he beats his man off the line, you GOTTA hit him for the longball.

I'm also willing to bet that if Tanny starts connecting with him deep, he will get sacked a lot less. I think a lot of the problems with pocket protection stem from teams not respecting the deep threat due to Tanny's accuracy issues (or arm strength issues?) on the deep passes.

tanny has plenty of arm strength. Teams know the line has trouble holding long enough for him to go deep. Wallace is not worth 12 million a yearor even close

Wallace could be doing more. Making more adjustments to the ball. Becoming a better target. Perhaps staying after practice and working with RT on their chemistry. I haven't heard them doing that all since he's been brought in.

I do think that Tanny has the strength to get the ball downfield. A lot of guys have the strength to throw a 50 yard sideline pass. The problem is the accuracy. Arm strength is irrelevant if you can't be accurate downfield. If you have access to any film this year, see if you can watch all the targets to Wallace on the fly routes. On any pass that he wasn't overthrown to by 15 yards, the ball was either OB or Wallace had to slow down for the ball.

I'm with you about the money. That is A LOT of money for ANY player, even if Wallace finished the season with 20 TDs and 2000 yards receiving. But I wouldn't pin it all on Wallace.

I also agree that our O-line is a huge part of the problem too. But, we HAVE had opportunities, and we have failed to take advantage of those opportunities.

Its pretty apparent to everyone here that our team has some MAJOR issues this year. To blame it all on one person just isn't reasonable. Our troubles this year aren't solely Mike Wallace's fault, nor Tanny's, nor the O-line's, nor Nolan Carroll's, nor <Insert any of our weekly scapegoats>....

You can't evaluate Wallace's performance this year in a vacuum.

I agree. Those two need to play catch every damn day until they are in sync.

****, if I was Philbin, instead of running a normal practice, I'd pull Tanny and Wallace aside and make them play catch for an hour a day, every day.

Wallace has had his problems, but when the guy beats one of the best corners in the league, and your qb can't even throw the ball in bounds, that's a huge problem. That was a td right there, and we are now 5-4. You can't keep missing the deep ball, when the opportunity is there. Tannehill sucks after 10 yards.

I couldn't agree more. This team makes things looks so difficult most of the time. Special teams, defense, and offense seem to take turns looking bad.
