I am down to these two men as who I want for the next coach of the Miami Dolphins. I would have been pleased with Fisher and think Billick would have been an excellent fit. Be that as it may, neither veteran coach is coming. Therefore, I am down to these two assistants.
I have wanted the following in a coach...
* Create a professional environment
* Someone that can join the football and business side of the organization
* Someone that can give direction to the franchise
* Instill mental toughness
* Someone that understands the trends of the NFL
* Someone that will not blow the roster up
* HC or a coach on the staff that can develop QB's
* A HC that is articulate and can become the face of the franchise
* Ultimately, a leader of men
Now, Zimmer and McCoy might not be able to do all of these. However, they can fulfill most. Zimmer is ahead in my mind. However, after spending a ton of time today learning more about McCoy and watching interviews of him, I am very impressed. If McCoy and Denver struggle tonight all here will roast me that he sucks...which will be a lazy argument. However, his body of work in his career has been outstanding.
Mike Zimmer
* Leader of men. Players work and rally for him...the terrible situation of his wife passing and the performance the following Sunday is an incredible story.
* His defenses in Cincy have been in the top 10 twice in the last four years...always in the top 15. Before he got there, they were in the 20's.
* His defense plays at a high level without much talent to speak of...no Bengals starter would start for Miami
* Holds players accountable. There is a classic example of him calling out Rey Maualuga saying he can play better...in with Maualuga agrees and goes on to play well
* Has worked with Ireland before
* Respected in the NFL and will put a crack staff together
* He will gleefully take on the challenge of Brady and Belichick...none of this **** of "we are playing for 2nd place"
* Has always adapted schemes to fit players' talent and not jam a system on to the team
* He deserves a chance...he has waited and been passed over. He is hungry and I pull guys like this...
Mike McCoy
* Has worked wonders with a very limited QB this season
* Adapted his offense to fit Tebow in midseason
* Has developed and worked with a diverse set of QB's in his career
* Articulate...he will be able to articulate the vision of what he wants to achieve
* Understands trends of the league
* He is the textbook example of adapting a scheme to the strengths of his players...IF it is true that the Fins will trade the farm for RGIII a coach that adapts a system is a MUST for a kid like Griffin III
* In 2009, McCoy was the OC in Denver in which Marshall set a career high in TD's with 10.
* Young guy 39 that we could build around indefinitely going into the future.
MAYBE another candidate comes along and is more impressive. However, I would be fired up for either two of these coaches...
