Mike Zimmer and Mike McCoy

I hope people appreciate how little talent McCoy has yet they still find ways to move the football.

While they can move the chains with the run game as long as their D is stout and usualyy is against weaker sisters you have to factor in the trouble they had with KC

I don't want McCoy, would be okay with Zimmer though. Would rather get an offensive guy to be the head coach though.

mcgahee moved the football along with tebows running talents. it not rocket science. any coach could have figured that out. im surprised it took mccoy so long to actually utilize it.

Any coach? Lol.

I don't get the attraction of McCoy, at all; potentially another Cam in the making;

Zimmer I could get excited about.

McCoy is nothing like Cam. He is younger and able to make relationships that are positive among players.

yeah any coach. the broncos were getting hammered by the media(pretty much the whole country) for not utilizing tebow for what he is and forcing him to do things he isnt capable of. broncos were probably the last to realize it. i know its hard for you to believe but the broncos won most of their games because of tebows will and strengths(edit:and defense), not a coaching strategy. its just tebow thats what he always has done.

i have no idea why you would be gung ho on mccoy...none

I thought I explained why I think he is good candidate throughout the thread. You can disagree with me, but I think I made my points in the first post...

BTW, I like Zimmer best of the candidates interviewed...but I do not think he will get the job in the end.

Don't blame me I wanted Billick from the start. McCoy intrigues me.

I disagree with that. I'm not that high on Mike McCoy at this time, but I do not see him as potentially another Cam Cameron in the making. IMO, the guy who has the most potential to be another Cam Cameron in the making is Pete Carmichael Jr. Why? Because Cam Cameron got the Dolphins job based off the fact that his offense was the top offense in the league that particular year, and the fact that he had an elite quarterback. Everyone wanted to attribute the play of that elite quarterback to Cam Cameron. The same thing is happening with Pete Carmichael Jr. This is a guy that doesn't even call the plays, but he is associated with that offense and Drew Brees, so to the fans, he must be great. It is just like Joe Philbin. He is associated with the Packers and Aaron Rodgers, so he must be great even though he didn't have anything to do with Rodgers's development as a quarterback.

I continue to laugh at the fans that only want a coach because he coaches an explosive offense though. If it was up to the fans of the Miami Dolphins, Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton would never be head coaches right now, and even then, their success is largely dependent on the fact that they were fortunate to go into a situation where the team had an elite quarterback.

I want someone that has been able to produce when he doesn't have elite players, because to me, that is the mark of a great coach. It's not what you do when you have great players. It is what you do when you don't have great players. To me, the guy who has consistently produced without the benefit of having elite players is Mike Zimmer. In 2 of the past 3 years, Mike Zimmer has had a defense that has rated in the top 10 in every category (scoring, total yards, rushing yards, passing yards, yards per play, net yards per pass attempt, yards per rush) with the exception of forcing turnovers, and this is with a defense that has largely consisted of other teams' trash and cast offs. Put that aside though, because even that has very little to do with head coaching other than the fact that Zimmer has proven he can get the most out of what he has.

The qualities I am looking for in a head coach are leadership, the ability to motivate, the ability to adapt, and the ability to get the most out of your players. To me, Mike Zimmer gets a check for all four. Mike McCoy gets a check for the last two, but I don't know about his ability to lead or motivate. Pete Carmichael Jr. at this point doesn't get a check for any, because I am not going to give him credit for having elite players.

Great post...strong thoughts.

I guess we will just disagree to the level McCoy helped a really bad QB compete in the NFL under incredible public pressure and spotlight of the nation. I like the guy...very interested.
