Monroe unlikely to return to Ravens

Aaron Wilson ‏@RavensInsider 1m

Nothing new on Eugene Monroe, still far apart. Too close to free agency for him not to test it. Will be heavy demand, Dolphins especially.

Eugene Monroe makes sense in a lot of ways. Probably the only LT on market that might be worth that $10m price tag, and wants to be in Miami

Come-Back CK!!

Fish are you ok with paying Albert this much money?....

Albert aiming for something in the neighborhood of the five-year, $51.3 million deal that 32-year-old left tackle Jason Peters just received from Philadelphia.

Albert battled through an assortment of injuries last season and missed four games (as well as parts of several more), but he still would represent a massive upgrade at the position for many teams. Albert posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 10.0 in 2013, which ranked 28th among all 76 tackles who played at least 25 percent of their teams’ offensive snaps.

Not really advocating Albert over Monroe as i don't really have a preference just pointing out our new coach knows him well.
I do think we must come out of free agency will a quality starting LT whatever it takes. Maybe a solid guard or two as well.

His age and durability scare me some, which is what I was trying to get accross.

The NFL TV deal was higher than expected and the cap money for the next 5 years is significantly higher than the last 5 years ... top players at premium positions like LT are going to get major bank. This is the reality of replacing your LT via FA. If you get one in the draft, it's a huge savings against the cap. But then again, it's hard finding a LT in the draft. Matthews is technically great, but doesn't look athletically like a stud LT. Robinson looks the part, but is raw and will take a couple of years to excel there in pass protection. Lewan is not perfect, but he is the best pass protector of the top OT's.

The dark horse I think can play LT at a high level and will be available outside of the 1st round is James Hurst. He is injured and not going to start as a rookie, but he has the natural skill set and good physical gifts. He isn't injury prone, he just broke a leg at the worst possible time, and because of that will be available outside of the 1st round. I see him as a better version of Sam Baker of Atlanta.

If these options don't really work for you ... start considering backing up that Brink's truck after all.

My approach would be to sign a top LT and then draft his eventually replacement who will start at right tackle for now. Basically the thing they were trying to do with Martin before he nutted up and quit on the team.

i'd like to know how this guy graded out with jax cause i sure didnt see anything awesome with awesome sauce about him when he was there and i watched jax...forget with baltimore for 11 weeks how bout his prior seasons in jax...

In 2012, Monroe was the #10 overall LT. He had a 5.5 on the run, with a 12.3 on the pass, and gave up 5 sacks, 7 hits, and 22 hurries.

He is not an All Pro but, a top ten LT, and can run block. I put his value at around $9M a year. I would go the extra million to have a LT we could run behind, and he is that.

Point well taken. i was against trading a second for him plus the huge contract last year for the same reason but in hindsight i was probably wrong.

Those number were while playing for a ****ty Jax team right ? Very respectable.

If it comes down to it i'll kick in the extra mil just to give our QB a chance to be all he can be :chuckle:

Yes, and i have to consider the ability to run block a big advantage over Albert and Collins. IMO, IF the OL were able to run block worth a damn last year. Tannehill's sacks would have been cut by a third. I have to go extra for a "complete" LT.

To be clear: Monroe remains a viable option. The Dolphins called his people today, per @flasportsbuzz. But BA and RS are in drivers seat.

What are the Raiders thinking? They must be looking at a LT in Round One.
