Moore may be closer to starting than you think

In football, you worry about the next game now, and the game after later. One game at a time.
Right now, Matt Moore is the better QB to play against Oakland.
At least he will have a game against a lessor opponent to shake off the rust and then the bye week to really get ready for the tougher part of our schedule.
If the team doesn't make the change, what have I got to look forward to?
If Matt Moore is winning, you play him to the end of the season. Even if we lose, but are competitive, you let Moore play.
After the season, we draft another franchise QB and let him ride the bench until he is ready. Let Matt Moore have his shot with Moreno and a decent defense.
I truly believe that we can make the playoffs with Moore.

Straight up naive. The Dolphins have far more going wrong than just the QB's.

Culture is more important than anything else.

- Culture A: "Play to win."

- Culture B: "Oh well, we started 1-2, so it's time to tank the season."

Over the long-term, teams with Culture "A" have a better chance of being successful.

Yes. You are right. Put in the known career backup and save Philbin's job and get a lower draft pick, right? Since everyone who has been clamoring for Moore is backing off on the "he can win" nonsense they have been spewing since preseason, suddenly the reason to put him in is because he is more fun to watch? That's stupid. Winning is fun to watch, losing always sucks. Does it matter if you lost throwing a couple of deep balls?

Why not come clean? You want Moore in because you think he can turn the season around and magically take us to the playoffs. If not, you are actually saying you are willing to hurt the team next year for 1 or 2 meaningless wins this season.

The sensible thing to do is to keep Tannehill in and either he improves, or the whole team gets re-evaluated and some meaningful changes get made.

the reason to put him in is because he is the best qb on our roster now. he also happens to be fun to watch, as he will make big plays and spark the offense a lot more than tannehill does.

but the main reason is he prob gives us the best chance on winning right now.

Straight up naive. The Dolphins have far more going wrong than just the QB's. The defense reportedly hates the DC, the receiving corps still can't catch, the OL is suspect, the D can't tackle, etc. Mat Moore might give you hope, but this team is far away from competing on a real level.

Such a weak criticism when its been shown pretty definitely that replacing an ineffective starting QB with a guy like Moore or Pennington, guys who are not supposed to be good enough, and they can rack off a number of wins where suddenly the entirety of the team is playing better because the most important guy on the team isn't preventing the other guys from having opportunities to make plays and/or win a game.

This team was also just a hair from making the playoffs last year and it was plain to see that the worst performing member of the team those last two games that we lost was the starting QB.

You failed to answer anything in my post. Is this team with Moore good enough to make the playoffs or not? The only acceptable reason to put him in is if the answer to that question is yes.

i believe so.

i think if we make the change now, we can go 10-6 if we put moore in.

lots of parody in the nfl , our defense is solid enough, i believe we can avg 23-24 pts a game with moore and win a decent amount of ball games.

then again, its a moot point, because philbin will not pull tannehill unless he gets hurt unfortunately.

Isn't it sad that after 3 games it trully looks like the season is over.

We have a new GM now. You can't attribute the Ireland moves to Hickey.

My point was more that high draft picks are not all sure bets than to knock Ireland. Lineman have been the high picks lately, not sure how quickly they turn around franchises. Andrew Luck doesn't come out every year.

With every loss Philbins' seat gets a little hotter. Everybody knows this including Philbin. I know Ross loves him but with all the media attention he will have no choice but to fire him. Moore gives this team a better chance to win thus Joe keeping his job. RT had his shot so lets give Moore his. At least Moore can throw the deep ball. He could be the spark we need.

Maybe, but I'm not sure Philbin is in the hot seat (as much as I wish he were) because I have no faith the owner of the team has the stomach to really clean house. I think, like many here, in his head Ross makes excuses for Philbin.

I never advocated tanking the season. I simply believe the Moore optimism is short sighted and foolish. You think culture is the most important? Culture is set by the owner and coaches first, the players then buy in, and results come last.

Maybe we define winning differently. Sure winning a game or two is fun, but how great is that Pats win now? Football is played over the course of a season with one goal, to win the super bowl. Winning the super bowl is success. You believe we need a new QB to get to the super bowl, right? How do you propose we get that QB? We have to draft him. Since QB position is the hardest to draft successfully, good draft position is a must.

If Mat Moore is a super bowl winner, start him. Otherwise, let the kid who is only in his fifth season as a QB continue and see if he improves and take the pick he secures you at the end of the year.

You're already talking about the draft, which means you're already giving up on the season, simply because we started 1-2.

I'm talking about maximizing Miami's chances of getting to the playoffs this season. And once you're in the playoffs, anything can happen.

I agree. My point is that if you don't have a franchise QB, the draft is how you find one. That requires good draft position. Sure you are likely to bust, but the odds of trading for one are slim, so you really have no choice but to take a chance.

I would rather give Tannehill the rest of the season to try and develop than put in a journeyman hoping he wins an extra meaningless game or two, especially if it means landing a better coach and a decent draft pick to get a QB. Besides, Tannehill may improve some anyway, he has only played three games in a new system.
