Mort and Adam: Philbin Wanted to Cut Incognito

Philbin's coaching style reminds me of Tony Dungy's. I think this style can work if he gets the dedicated, talented and high character players on the team. Respected, experienced and strong willed team leaders can add more to making a team a winner than any coach, imo.

IMPROVEMENT from last year. The team has more talent and is not playing as well as last year.
I don't think we can appraise that with enough certainty until the season is over. Heck, the team could win its last five games and finish 10-6, and improve over last year's record by three wins.

Boi Adam and Shef are really trying hard to validate their initial claim of painting Incognito as a bad person. smh.....

Even without the Martin stuff, it doesn't really require "painting."

On the one hand I think it looks decisive of Joe to make the decision so quickly...but on the other hand he did not wait for all the fact to be in...very hasty and jumped the gun.
I think this mentality of Joe's is why Bush, and Dansby is no longer here. It appears to me once he turns on a player, that's it for him.
Ireland, as much as I want him gone, at least didn't over react.
I agree with the 2nd poster about the timing of this release. Scheckler wanted to peel the scab one more time. Despite the team settling with Incog and likely Martin by the end of the season, he will continue to twist the knife.

IF they won the rest of their games that would be a great improvement. At the same time, if they keep losing leads or losing to terrible QB's, that shows bad regression. The team stats are all lower than last year, yet he was given more talent.

Exactly.

You can't deny that we've added more talent on offense, and overall there's minimal difference.

Keep in mind, this is year 2 for the new scheme/direction. We're supposed to have an up-tempo offense, and fast passing game. The O line wasn't even supposed to be that great because we'd be getting the ball out fast. It's not materialized.

As far as the reporter is concerned, I agree it's self-serving, and speculation. If Philbin wanted to cut Incognito, then he would be cut, that's what I believe. Maybe Sherman was against it and they discussed it, and made a decision to keep him, or maybe it's just bunk and Philbin was fine with Incognito staying on the roster.

Richie Incognito’s off-field troubles often fueled by alcohol

...after the golf incident. However, because he was a so new to the job he was over ruled. Schefter connected Ross' overwhelming support of Philbin in his presser to Joe wanting to cut Incognito loose. Fill in the blank....Ireland wanted to keep Incognito.
The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley reported about this almost a month ago.

The sad irony for the Dolphins is that they weren’t exactly sold on bringing Incognito back to the team this year, and most didn’t see a future for him here beyond the current season.

During offseason planning, they considered parting ways with Incognito but ultimately decided they didn’t have enough talent to make the move. His contract expires after this season, and even before this scandal the Dolphins were not inclined to bring him back.

Perhaps they had grown tired of his antics, which, according to the National Football Post, included holding offensive line meetings at a strip club. Citing multiple sources, the story claimed Incognito would fine players who didn’t show.

Less talent...apart from the Wallace and Grimes signing.
Dansby and Burnet are better than Ellerbee and Wheeler
The Oline in complete disarray. Depending on Martin..who flat out sucked last year. Waiting until all the quality RG/RT were gone in FA. Signing Clabo who Atlanta has sen enough. Yeatman? Still on this team?
Cutting Bush with no proven upgrade
Vintage Ireland at work. He does not finish what he starts. He has no vision of the completed team.

He has got Aponte in his corner as well as the assistants. Ross is a lazy owner. He will not make substantial changes.

I think you are right and if anyone thinks that if they lose out Ross will fire him, remember how Tony ended the 2010 season. Ross did not fire his ass then. Joe is safe. He is not doing a good job and the team is getting worse. Terrible job by Joe.

It's clear to everyone else that we haven't improved over last year. You can't make an appraisal like that because their are no stats to tell you we have not improved.

This really does seem to be setting up Philbin returning and Ireland leaving. Wouldn't even be surprised if the changes are minor and made from within, with Gaine becoming the new GM.
