Mort is reporting what the Defense is saying off the record.
If it's "off the record" why is he reporting it? That's journalistically unethical.
If it's a predominate opinion among the defense, why can't he find anyone man enough to stand for what he say's. Are ALL the D player's so cowardly as to sheepishly mutter behind other's backs? Doubtful.
Is it maybe 1 or 2 players who don't want to go on record because they know other D players will flame them?

That's why those guys play defense. Cause they know nothing about offense.
Sorry, but that statement doesn't make sense. Before a defense can play at the level Miami's defense has proven itself able to play at, they must first thoroughly understand what the offense is doing. That's what determine what they are supposed to do. If the D that lines up across from Miami's O every practice were to predominately express the opinion that Feeley alone is responsible for the O's problem and delivers less of a threat than Fiedler, that opinion would be hard to ignore. I've seen no evidence of that. If they think it, speak up. Don't hide behind some reporter's skirt.

After coming from Philly he must think this offensive staff is a joke. He made comments about the coaches being confused.
Though I'm not yet a Wanny basher, I can't imagine ANY Shula, Lombardi, Paul Brown, Jimmy Johnson, Parcell, Belichek (sp.) player running their mouth on or off the record without SERIOUS repercussions. If they wanted to know the players opinion, they told it to them. They may not of always been right, but their leadership was UNQUESTIONED. Right now there appears to be a conflict in leadership in offensive philosophy between the assistants.

I think its time to clean house and I mean from top to bottom. No cobb webb untouched.
Starting at the top. I can't see a successful businessman like Wayne H. tolerating this much longer. Miami needs an ABSOLUTE leader like Shula or Lombardi who knows what needs to be done and matter-of-factly tells his players and assistant coaches "I DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. I WANT YOU TO EXECUTE OR BE REPLACED. PERIOD." In business, when things go as wrong as they are going in Miami it ALMOST ALWAYS is an indictment of leadership (i.e management).
