Mort: Ross, Ireland, Peterson all have diff ideas about coach

Peterson is right. There are other qualified candidates that they are not looking at.

more retread coaches??? i think there is a reason Billick and Schottenhiemer havent been hired...

Clearly we are running out of time.

Im glad Ross likes Philbin cause ultimatley he has the last word on the hiring and Philbin would be my favorite other than Carmichael Jr

I'm waiting to hear about an epic bitchslap fight all 3 got into via feelings via sources via Mortensen.

If Peterson is advising Ross as he has said the business of expanding the search to include the like of Shotty Sr. did not just come up today or yesterday. Peterson from day one would have told Ross to include other coaches and offered names but it is clear Ross feels the need to go in another direction like with younger, still in the league coaches.

Couldn't disagree more. Granted he's the owner, his football knowledge is suspect. I'd be more inclined to go with Peterson on this one. That being said Petersons candidates are not "yes men" so they are more than likely not going to get true consideration

Peterson traded a draft pick for Herm Edwards....maybe if we listen to Peterson he'll widen the search and bring back Herm Edwards

Ireland wants a coach in here who's going to adhere to the ground and pound roster he's tried to build through the draft by taking offensive lineman and backs like Daniel Thomas. He wants a coach who gives him the best chance to make his draft picks work out, with the mindset that they can win with game manager type quarterback. Along with somebody he can throw under the bus and save his own job when it doesn't work out.

Ross seems like he's more in line with what I think Miami should be doing. He doesn't just want a coach, he wants to bring in a proven system via coaching staff. A system and a structure that likely has the quarterback position as it's focal point, and places the proper value on the position itself.

Peterson is irrelevant in all this to me. It's no skin off his back one way or the other.

The problem I have is that we're approaching another situation that can't be pinned on Jeff Ireland if it blows up in Miami's face again in 3 years. Another situation where Ireland's involvement is "fuzzy" at best, allowing his fingerprints on another potential disaster to be whiped clean with no clear cut definition of exactly what he's responsible for.

If Ross felt like keeping Jeff Ireland as his GM was as asset, then he needs to let him do his job, and defer to Ireland and let him hire his coach. At least that way there's no more squirming out of the guillotine.

I trust Ross' instinct and evaluation of the coaching and quarterback situation a helluva lot more than I do Jeff Ireland's. However, both Ross and the Ireland fanboys finally need to be able to know they can hold him accountable for something.

Couldnt agree more with this. That's why we shouldve cut ties with ireland, but that would also mean rebuilding all over again.

This organization is the joke of the NFL if even half of these reports are true. Way too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Seriously this pool of candiates is horrid and if this is all they have to choose from and can't make up their minds than stick with Bowles. He got them to play with what they had and won some games and the over all play improved to where it was fun watching Miami football the second half the season. He has more experience than the other two in terms of head coaching and since the 2 other candiates don't excite anyone give Todd the job and see what he can do with a couple full seasons and offseason work to see what he can do, if he can't perform than fire him, dont' see how that sets us back since he is already in that role and bring in either of the other 2 we start over and more then likely fire them same time Todd gets the boot if he can't perform.

During the next couple of years Ross really needs to get a grip on his public image and Ireland as well. Based on the events from last year and comments from media that work with them they are not very respected amongst their peers and both needs to correct that to get any respectable coaches to come here and work with them. If Ross, Peterson and Ireland can't even agree on the 3 candidates up for the job now someone needs to go and we need one person to make the decisions and not hold process up. This is beyond emabarrasing- it's not like we are choosing between Cowher, Gruden and Billick

I would take Shottenheimer in a heartbeat over the other three finalist. They need to expand the search and interview more people. Why isn't Carmichael being interviewed?
Or Chud?

before this whole thing started. I swear I saw Ross say that he is the final word on who becomes HC. After that, the GM has the control on all football operations.

Go get Philbin Ross!

money and paychecks trump all bullship.

Peterson is an outsider. and his opinion is based on his outsider brain. He doesnt have to deal with this crap once he is gone. Billick is overrated. He is a ahole and now he probably has changed his mind after all this. There is nothing wrong with what we currently are doing. We just have a standstill at basically two guys and they are probly hashing out the pros and cons and discussing all night. Which is what any business would do when making a big decision.

no its not. its just opinions of people who think they know....but they dont know.....they dont know diddly poo

and what is so great about chud???

not asking as if their is not, but does anyone really know? He is just a finheaven guy who keeps getting tossed around. thats all. if he were so wanted, he would be taken already.

Actually if this is true, they should remove the interim tag from Boles. They know he is a solid coach who they entrusted to lead them the last 3 games which he did. He is well liked and respected in the locker room and maintains continuity for the organization.
Continue losing? Because thats what we have been doing.

IS IT FRIDAY YET?.....pls pick one already....cant take another week of this.

whenever ross and ireland put their thinking caps together it always spells disaster for the fans.

maybe its time to listen to an outsider for once. peterson seems to be the only one that has his head screwed on straight.

Head Coaches hired under Peterson:

Marty Shottenheimer
Dick Vermeil
Gunther Cunningham
Herm Edwards

Not too bad... could be lots worse.
