Morts Picks

The defense should be good, as usual. But is it great? Ricky Williams is a good back but is he great. My nose is big but is it Great.

What an Idgit. As much as Sean Salisbury is a Phins homer this guy is the opposite.

Hoover is right guys. Just because Mort doesn't pick our Fins to win the division doesn't mean we have to start bashing him. It is his opinion. I do question calling us overrated and saying Gailey was a miracle worker......

I'm not bashing his opinion because of what he says about the Phins just what he says. He says nothing. He says these guys are good those guys are good the coaches are good etc etc then he says he really doesn't know and he's just basing his opinion on pre season play so far. Thats why I'm bashing him.

I think you guys missed his point..I think he was saying that with a avg QB and avg RB, Gailey was able to help the team get to a 11-5 mark both years..Basically Gailey was using sub par tools to achieve high results..ie Lamars's 1100 and 900 yards rushing...Fielder's first year 2000 and then 3000 yards passing..He would have had to be a genious because no one else would have thought he'd get as much using those two.

I can't seem to understand why everyone thinks this a bad thing? Predictions mean NOTHING and the Phins are a team who tend to read their press clippings. I think it will help to have someone not picking them and someone telling them they'll suck...especially someone as high profile as Mort.

Thanks alot Mort you may have just woken up the Phins a little bit.

I totaly agree with both sides, How can you respect anything written by some talking head name MORT. On the other hand, it's his job to write something so he does. " Man is an animal that writes things" We are Dolfans so it stings a little bit to read such drivel. I only hope our oposition "team wise" also underestimates us, if so, they are setting themselves up for a good "arskicking" Never under estimate your enemey. Just my two cents worth.

How anyone can not say that norv and RW will be huge upgrades over what we had is just insane! when we beat teh detroit Lions 42-3 in the opener, things will change in a hurry. i see mike mcmahon getting his @$$ whipped good! in 90 degree heat.

Put it to you this way, were 11-5 the last 2 years, we have upgraded our offense, WR in Chambers, Ward Healthy, RICKY WILLIAMS and Norv Turner, and a possible new star in Randy McMichael. Our defense is still solid, top 8 at least. Bills have upgraded their passing game, but other than Moulds and Bledsoe, no other real stars. Jets Defense will suck, oline in hurt. Pats, Brady is over-rated, A.Smith has been pretty lazy since his big $$ contract, and they have nothing to gain to having a winning season, their effort won't be as high as last year. My point is these people that are predicitng the fins last, or barley making the playoffs are basing their opinions off our pre-season games, and Jay's play right after surgery. I'm not saying we are stacked, and we have a shot at 16-0 or something, we just deserve a little more credit than what we our getting credit for. PReseason doesn't mean didley sh*t!!!!!

BTW Jets Defense doesn't suck and in fact the Jets have good chance of winning division. The key for the Dolphins is to take that first game in Miami..Anyways Morts was talking about Miami being a superbowl contender not too long ago, his prediction are based on preseason play(not too smart)..

This guy has his head up his ass!!!!! 11-5 record the last 2 years. OOOOOO I forgot Ricky Williams will just make are team worse......

Mort seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth to make some sort of "bold" prediction. It's very unbecoming of him after establishing himself as a competent insider... The Gailey analysis is so far off it makes him sound clueless.

I read Mort's prediction today and was shocked. Especially when he ranks us 7th overall. His comments sure makes him seem to more of a fan of Chan Gailey than most observers of him are.
Also his basing the picks on pre-season play is obnoxious. I remember when Bill Arnsbarger got Larry Czonka to join him with the New York Giants in 1976 they went 6-0 in pre-season and everyone was fooled into believing that they would roll. They went 3-11 and Arnsbarger got fired.
Anyway I want to do like Parcells did Mort in the ESPN commercial.

What I find funny is the fact that if you look at Mort's pre- preseason rankings he has the Dolphins 7th. Now he has them finishing last in the AFC east this season. I also have read the chat wrap where he has them as a super bowl contender. That pretty much proves he is basing his opinion on the dolphins preseason play. Does this bother me? NO NO NO but I'm a little disapointed that an analayst such as Mort, who I happen to like, could pick for or against a team based on their preseason play. Anyone who really follows the game should know that is a bogus way of predicting things. Look at the Bills, Cowboys and 49ers of the early to mid 90's. They all sucked (especially the Bills) in the preseason but would then come out and spank their week 1 opponent 45-0 and go to or win the super bowl. If someone has a legitimate argument why they think the fish will finish last in the AFC east this season I respect your opinion. However to say they will finish last because the whole team is good but not great, Turner (who 2 of 5 ESPN analysts have as the best game planning offensive coach in the NFL. Would Gailey even be considered for that?) is a small upgrade over Gailey and the team has looked bad in preseason is piss poor. I guess that means that the Patriots, Jets and Bills have all great players and all great coaches if our GOOD team is the worst of the four. Are far as the OL goes they will be fine. Remember the team won 11 games last season with Spencer Folua at LT. Who would argue that Mark Dixon even though he hasn't played LT in 5 years isn't a huge upgrade over Folua. We had Ruddy in and out of lineup and Heath Irwin playing Center for a few games. We even had Troy Andrew playing some center and starting at LG a few times. Not only will the starting OL be better this season we have better backups than last year. Seth McKinney would be adequate if anything happened to Ruddy, Leon Searcy could step in and play RG or RT in the case of an injury and Spriggs although not good eneough to start could be OK at LT (remember he was ahead of Folua on the depth chart last season). Criticize all you'd like but the way I see it the OL and backups are a better unit as a whole then the one the Fish won 11 games with last season. I am not saying the Dolphins will go 16 - 0 and win the super bowl but they will most definitly compete for the AFC EAST title and make the playoffs.

When was the last time the Dolphins finished LAST in the AFC East????....I can't remember ever finishing LAST.

By picking the Bills to finish above Miami, he only proves one thing.....He's crazy.

PHINZ RULE!!!!
