My thought exactly. As I stated before, I hate the SOB, but you can't argue with results.

The only reason the system he was in worked is bc he was the perfect QB for it. Mobile, quick thinking , accurate as hell. You couldnt rattle the guy.....he was ice.

Do not agree.. Montana was a good QB in a great system. That same system made Elvis & Bono look great and gave them starting positions on other teams because of it. Ryan Leaf could have strived in that system.

I agree w/your comment to a certain extent (Leaf would fail anywhere/anytime). Granted, Bono and Elvis did thrive in that system but Montana brought it to a whole new level. His pocket presence, ability to look off LB's and safeties, and reading the defense was almost unparrelled (imo)

I think that Brady is overrated because nobody gives there WR's any credit at all. He only does good because of how the system is set. You may bash me, but that is just how i feel. But like somebody else said eariler, i def would want Brady when it's clutch time.

For Vick, its because the media fawns over him. he has amazing athletic ability, but at this point in his career as a passer his just average.

Brady: i remember watching one of those NFL challenge shows that pitted the AFC against the NFC and an NFC player said something like, "well we lost this round cause those patriot recievers always catch everthing."

im not sure if hes overrated cause i hate the media and those they love. He has great coaching, great decision making, and has a stronger arm than people think

For the perpetual "anyone could have run behind that OL" argument against Emmitt, I like to point to his '98 and particularly his '99 season. No healthy Erik Williams playing then, a past-his-prime and overweight Nate Newton, no Tunei, Gesek, Gogan, or Donaldson by then either, yet he puts up back-to-back seasons of almost 1400 yards apiece. That's with the likes of Everett McIver and Clay Shiver blocking for him. And in '99 he does it in 13 1/2 games, not 16, and with the Cowboys down to their 4th and 5th string receivers as starters towards the latter half of the season.

There was also a reciprocal effect with Emmitt and his O-lines. People also forget Smith made his linemen look real good too. Newton, Tunei, and Gogan had all played under Landry and looked pretty average back in those days, but they became Pro Bowlers when Emmitt started running behind them.
 
Most overrated easily Ray Lewis of course he is a great player but people act like he is this great leader that just wills his team to victory like the defense has no other talented players. I just think its an example of another player that talks alot of smack and they give the one player all the credit for the team playing good defense.

Although I could easily agree on player not currently in NFL that was most overrated being JOe Namath. Probably only guy in hall of fame with more interceptions than Td's. If a QB or other player of prominance is on a Super Bowl team they always seem to get quite overrated plus his guarantee in the Super Bowl where a player has a bout a 50% chance of being right and we never remember the predictions that don't come true. I mean if the Jets lost would we think he sucked just because of the prediction.

I doubt it. Mainly because its refrikindiculous.
 
I believe Bill Walsh said it best. "Montana was the product of a system. Marino was the system."

Edit: How else do you explain all the quarterbacks they have had? I don't think any franchise is that lucky to get that many good qb's. Every qb above Marino in lifetime rating is from a west coast offense. Marino had to earn his not just pass it off and depend on his receivers to get YAC.
