Mr. Ross GM Statement

of the candidates we have lined up I really don't see one I'd be angry about. When the worst candidate you have lined up for an interview initially is Lake Dawson it's a good list, and there are more good ones out there.

But yes we should let this play out you are right. I just hope everybody realizes that just because the eventual GM may not be a big name or a known commodity doesn't mean he'll be a failure or vice versa. Phil Savage was supposed to be a coup for Cleveland (well... really everybody Cleveland has hired since coming back has been praised). So was Scott Pioli in KC, Ireland/Parcells here, ect. I mean I'd rather Ross spend 2 months interviewing candidates and finding the right guy than rushing.

With Ireland's reputation it would not shock me, but I don't know for sure. The rumors are that Ross didn't want to fire Ireland because he promised he wouldn't, so be saying he was going to get demoted, it gave him an out.

Very, very, very good list.

I am sorry. Have they actually selected a GM? Let's wait to see how this plays out.

If they select a Ross or a Farmer and of course Tom Gamble, I will stand up and applaud. However, everyone is so gaga over a statement. Trust, but verify.

Suuuure you will.

And you want to know whats so special about Joe? Well apparently he's a better personnel guy than our personnel guy was. If Ireland didn't veto his pleas to trade for Brandon Albert we'd probably be playing a playoff game in Miami this weekend.

You know I am an Albert guy. Where were you when I was getting bashed this past April pleading for the trade?

I will be very pleased with some of these names. The one that bothers me most is Omar Khan. I do not get that one. However, Marc Ross…love him. Talked about Marc Ross back in November…

There seems to be some great candidates as well.

I DO have an issue that Ross says the GM is autonomous, but cannot bring in his own coach. However, to be fair, I have never thought Philbin would ever be fired. I DO think the franchise would benefit, once and for all, having a GM and HC duo like we see in so many of the winning organizations that are playing this weekend. However, that is not where we are.

It's interesting that they're interviewing Omah Kahn. He has a similar resume to Aponte's. That should make her sweat a bit.

Odd interview.

Odd interview.

Hayden I share your concern with regard to the GM having Philbin pre-installed as his head coach for this season, but keep in mind that if Philbin fails, the new GM can just fire him. It's not the end of the world. And I'm a guy who wanted a complete house cleaning- but I can live with it as long as the GM won't have his hands tied re: personnel and picking players and will have the freedom to hire and fire coaches- which going by what Ross said, he will.

If there is one thing I will beg people to trust me on, it's that Khan is a VERY good candidate. Not promising success. But it's criminal that he isn't a GM in the league

 So all the whining, complaining and doomsday talk was for nothing.

Lesson to all that you should wait to see what happens instead of gobbling up everything the media writes and tweets. Have to learn to take things with a grain of salt, not everything is fact.

Yep. Too many people here jump the gun far too often these days. Why can't people realize that not every single piece of information, or opinion, that comes from the media is 100% accurate?

I know, but there is such a big part of me that says…"get on with it NOW"..why wait that year. However, I have never thought he would get canned. I think they should start anew, but it was never going to happen. I have not wasted much time talking about coaching candidates.

Ross' best move as owner could be selecting a quality GM and allowing him to make a team in his vision. This is a big week ahead for the Fins.

I think of him as a numbers guy not an "acorn finder".

Laconfora thinks he gets it. FWIW.

well for once I hope JLC is right. There is not a name I don't like that we're looking at but Khan would be a great get. And it's worth mentioning that before going into the administration end, he was a scout

Darlington nails it here:

In other words, Aponte handles many of the organizational issues that could potentially detract from the focus of the GM or the head coach.

I sense a lot of Aponte criticism lately, but I'm not sure people understand what she even does. Seems more like an asset than a threat.

If Aponte has power, it is apparently a result of respect. And if a confident GM can't handle that, well, he's not much of a man... is he?

No where in Ross's statement does he say that the GM will have final say about the coach/coaches. Ross says that the GM will have "autonomous control over the 53 man roster."

Ummm, that's pretty much what it means. Give it up dude, the owner spoke and now his detractors don't like it. He's dammed if he does and he's dammed if he don't. And I'm glad he did.

I have no problem with Ross clarifying things, but everyone seems to think that the GM will be able to fire Philbin if he does not have a winning season. That don't appear to be the case. The only one that can fire Philbin will be Ross.

I hear ya to a point. Again, we don't really know what's going on in Ross' mind regarding the GM but I really think joe is safe for a year and after that he will allow his GM to make the decision. And if Ross is still making the decision regarding Joe, I think it's pretty clear he's getting impatient and will fire him himself if we are dealt another losing season without making the playoffs.i really believe it's playoffs or bust for joe so I could care less who fires him at that point
