Multiple Teams: Dolphins Made a "Mega Reach" with JaWuan James

I really like the analogy that Cowherd made yesterday.

Imagine your wife sent you out for milk and eggs. You came home with a rake.

"We needed milk and eggs!"
"Yeah, but this rake was on sale! We got great value with this rake!"

We needed a tackle. We reached. I don't care. "Value" is SO damned overrated in the draft.

Could we have has him in the second? Maybe, but why risk it?

Oh, and people saying he would have lasted into the fourth round are not from this planet.

Just to play devil's advocate... I'm not ripping the James pick at all. But I imagine that people who are bashing it are saying Hickey didn't pass up a rake for milk and eggs, he passed up a new car and brought home milk and eggs.

The new car won't do you much good if you starve to death...

A trade down would have been preferable, but we already know Hickey was talking about it. Could be he felt the Saints or other teams were lowballing him, and as a first year GM you don't want to earn a reputation of a guy that can be had.

I'm kinda meh on the pick. In the end, the Dolphins couldn't risk exiting the draft with only one starting caliber tackle on the roster, and nobody fell to #19 at a position of need. I understand not wanting to gamble in this situation, and hope that in the future we can avoid situations like the 2013 offensive line.

Apparently there needs to be a disclaimer every year the draft comes around because it's always the same thing. This player and that player will be good, turns out he isn't. This player and that player was a reach and could bust, turns out he's a good player.

It's the same ****ing thing every year. If James was a reach, he was a reach. We won't know for another year.

LOL " anonymous sources"

The truest sign of a bull**** story.

Of course you would come into the negative thread in the main forum and agree with it. No mention of some of the 2nd and 3rd day steals we got in the draft. Of course!

That's all he contributes to the site......negative about any and everything the Fins do.

Remember when people had a top ten grade on Jonathan Martin just didn't draft him? And what defines a reach? Projections or who we think is good? If you think a guy is your guy, then go get him. Who cares if people say it is a reach.

Because if you only play your hand, you don't get the most from a draft you can.

More embarrassing crap from Miami. Reach for a GM, reach for a player... big ****ing surprise. Damn clowns.

No I understand that. But I'm saying with James, if you think he will be gone if you trade down, then grab him. Get the guy you are happy with drafting. Does that always work out? No. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Did you see where Moses was drafted? He slipped all the way to the late 3rd round. Do you want to know the reason for that? It is because he was not as good as as the media hype would lead you to believe, while in the eye of the real football scouts he wasn't thought of as highly. They asked Bill Polian what he thought of Moses after he was drafted last night and he said that he was concerned about him as a prospect because he was a waist bender and played straight legged. I am so glad Miami didn't draft Moses I can't even begin to tell you. Just about everyone's negative reaction to where the Dolphins drafted James is based on where the so called draft experts projected him to go before the draft and not on the actual player. The same goes for Moses in the opposite way. That is why many people are criticizing Miami for "reaching" for James and praising the Redskins for getting a "steal" with Moses. It has nothing to do with how good each player really is.

YOu can hate how much all the so called draft experts say that James was a reach but he was a reach no matter how anyone paints it. If we didnt draft James he might have slipped to 3rd round we will never know

How dare anyone criticize the dolphins draft picks. We have a proven NFL coach with a proven NFL GM and we have a proven record of drafting well and winning lately. Stupid fans.
