No it isn't Landry, but he is a rookie this year. I told you guys when we signed Chris McCain that he was going to start moving up the depth chart by the middle of preseason and push for a starting spot by opening week. Everyone thought I was crazy and could only talk about Tripp. But let me tell ya this kid has been a nightmare since his days as a Nighthawk for Northern Guilford up here in NC. The night hawks won 3 straight championships before getting that streak broken last year. They have put out some great talent considering the school was only founded in 2007. Keenan Allen played with McCain on some of the championship teams and a kid named TJ Logan will be the starting RB for UNC this year.

But as for McCain, this kid was a absolute beast in HS and carried that over to college. You could see his burst in college, he was very raw but was unblockable. He is the exact opposite of Jordan. Jordan has all the gifts in the world but no motor. I said the night we drafted him that his bust potential was very high because he didn't strike me as someone with the passion to be great. Every interview I saw just proved that more and more. I can't see Jordan as ever being a great player, but I will tell you right now Chris McCain WILL.

I haven't been this excited about a player since I was laughed off this board for saying before we brought in Cam Wake that he had the potential to lead the league in sacks. Mark it down, Chris McCain will be starting by the end of the year, and most likely long before that. He is very intelligent and has decided to put 100% of his energy into football for the first time in his football life. Hang on to your hats boys, he is gonna be a whirlwind.

Most rookies are trying to keep their confidence up to stay positive, this dude is talking about how he is struggling to not get OVER confident. Wait and see, this guy is gonna make a name for himself. :hump:

Kinda hard not to really like the guy. His motor is non-stop, and he's very physical. Really hope to see him starting by the end of the year.

you and i were neck and neck early on with our mccain props.

he just has that wow factor. and it wasnt his playing that was the issue with his draft status, off field and academic issue.

i want him replacing wheeler in the worst way, NOW!!

He can play.

But he's been kicked out of every school he's ever been to. So uh... he might soon be your newest favorite ex-fin?

I like both Mccain and Tripp at LB for us long term. But of the two I think Mccain is the one most likely to help us on defense this year. It's not that I don't love everything I see out of Tripp. He look like a natural LB out there. But he looks like he still lacks the strength to play regular downs at LB and consistently get off blocks. That will come with time and work in the weight room. To me Mcain looks far more ready physically. And he also looks to have the instincts for the position and seem to be a very sure tackler. How much he helps on that side of the ball this year will come down to how well he handles the mental side of the job. He's been impressive to this point in camp and the preseason.

We all had a wild side we had to mature out of, at that age. Some of the best defensive player around has that wild side that has to be controlled, but I would rather have a players that has a little baggage than one who lacks the drive to be great. Will some of them get kicked out of the league?? Sure, but I would still rather take my chances with them.

This kid has it just written all over him. Unlike anyone we've ever had on D before. He'll shut down a lot of tight ends and make tackles for loss in the run game. Could see him in the vote for ROY

Sure could use a really good young linebacker to develop for us, it has been a while.

The guy's not even a starter yet & you're talking ROY consideration?!? :chuckle:

Kind of a leap, no?

Chris clearly has talent. He's also very tall and fast. I was aware that he had been kicked off the Cal team by the coach, but I don't know anything about what he did to get such punishment. I was expecting him to come across as a tough inarticulate thug in the interview and was pleasantly surprised that he seemed quite decent. Maybe he has come to his senses and learned from past transgressions. I hope so. Also interesting that one of his buddies on the team is Tripp. I'm pretty sure from what I've heard, Tripp is an extremely high character guy and a natural leader. Maybe surrounded by good guys can help McCain stay on the right track because he needs to be aware that his past means that he's on a short leash.

Don't see him beating out Shazier. That kid is NASTY. As of right now that would be my pick. I SOOOO wanted him, I still wonder if he would have been the pick had he made it to us.
