My Observations Camp Day 3

How did chad look? Does speration look like it might be a problem for him?

Chad can still separate....primarily bc he's really crisp on his routes. That said....he didnt do much that stood out today.

Regarding Hard Knocks......cameras and HBO crew were all over the place but no different than on a gameday.

The photographers and beat writers (like Kelley) were the ones setting up right in front of the bleachers and blocking the view of the fans.

Lauren Tannehill was there, too.

This offseason would be so boring if we didnt have a rookie quarterback

Not surprised by a lot of what you said about the rooks b/c it goes with what i thought about these guys during the draft.

Kaddu and Egnew
I wasn't a fan of either of these picks with other guys still on and the board and questioned both selections immediately. Egnew blew up the combine but i saw ZERO separation in game films i watched. He definitely doesn't play at the same speed he tests at. It does not surprise me to hear that he's not getting separation from our LBs. (also don't like how skinny his legs are and how easily he goes down on tackles). As for Kaddu, i thought he was EXTREMELY raw, just an athlete allowed to attack at Oregon without any real responsibility.....but not great at anything. He seemed a bit weak at the point of attack and lacked instincts, slow to react. He made most of his plays when he was allowed to just attack and rush the QB, which would have been fine in the 3-4 but not our new system. I just don't know if he'll improve enough or show enough to the coaches in such a short time to make the roster. If not, he might be a practice squad guy b/c he does have a lot of athletic talent.

Martin
I've always been a fan of Martin. I think he has a great base and good feet and does play with a bit of a chip at times. Needs to get stronger and work on staying balanced (reaches sometimes) but i think he has a bright future. Love to hear that he didn't back down from Starks. I hope Big Jake helps him come along nicely.

Miller
A luxury pick for us, not expected to drop so far and wasn't a huge need when compared to other positions. But this guy has some sick sills...amazing speed, finds holes inside and slithers through, a one cute and gone type guy......BUT, the only question is can he stay healthy??? The was the only knock on him for the last 2 years at Miami with his chronic shoulder issues. The talent is definitely there though.

First of all, it was HOT! If you plan on going I suggest you bring 2 water bottles, sunscreen, and a sweat towel. There was a good crowd...about 1100-1200 people I would say.

Here is some of my key observations:

O-Line: I think we have a lot of talent. We are in better position than last year. I was a bit worried about J. Martin but the kid is looking pretty good. During one drill him and Randy Stark scuffled and J. Martin did not back down an ounce! J. Martin has a mean streak in him...I liked it!

D-Line/D-Ends: Cameron Wake is huge! Took his shirt off after practice and he is ripped! It seems like him and Randy Stark are pretty good friends. Didn't really see much out of Soliai today. I really wanted to see what O. Vernon has but the D-Line did a lot of work at the far end. And, during 11-11 drills O. Vernon didn't really make any splash plays.
Thanks for posting these - really appreciated.

I see Armando Salguero is quoting Philbin as saying the quality of pass protection by the o-line is causing "a little bit of a concern". In Philbin's presser, he referenced how the defense is a little on top and that was to be expected. Did you get any sense of the O-line struggling in pass pro?

I don't get why everyone always starts off with "it was hot", duh it is hot, it's Miami. Must have read the same introductory line the past 8 years on Finheaven.

And? What is your point? The write up is appreciated and insightful.
