My Prediction - Frerotte will Start Week 1!

All three south Florida papers are predicting Gus as the starter. Let us hope that Gus will better manage the game and make more big plays than A.J. did last year.

We don't have to "hope"...we know what Gus will bring...a C+ rated QB who will not win games, but may not lose too many. Feeley is a C+ rated QB who, not necessarily thru his own faults, has shown a tendency to give up the pick-6's...and therefore may lose some games for us...Starting Gus will be the first "safe" thing that I have seen Saban do...I'm going to be dissapointed in him because of that...

why start gus?

he has no upside.

aj has upside. might as well start him.

starting gus would be a waste of a season for the fins cause everyone knows that gus isn't the long term solution to the qb problem

might as well give aj a shot.

if he does good, then he will stick.
if he doesn't then we know to get a 1st round qb.
no thank you, are you and feeley related?

Doesn`t matter who gets named starter Week 1, because I think both Frerotte and Feeley will see plenty of action this season, it`s going to be musical QBs throughout the year. In the offseason, if we don`t land Leinart, then we get a QB through free agency or via trade, but for this year, it`s the two headed F monster.

And the hope was that one guy would (finally) grab the bull by the horns and surge ahead. But Feeley got gored by the bull, while Frerotte merely got out of its way.

In short, you can't make me believe that Saban wouldn't have given Feeley the start if he had lit up the Falcons like a Christmas tree. This isn't the Wannstedt era.
Maybe you are right. However, I think the coaches knew about A.J.'s QB weaknesses and prefer a more experienced QB to start the season.

I love your quote, "Feeley got gored by the bull, while Frerotte merely got out of its way."

My Prediction : SAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, just kidding. Frerotte should start the opener, but if he starts stinking up the place on a regular basis, I would leap frog Feeley, and start Rosenfels instead....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Based on the comments from the coaching staff, especially the offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, I predict Gus Frerotte will start in the Miami opener against Denver on Sept. 11.

The evidence is in the response Linehan gave on Frerotte's performance yesterday. He was actually making excuses for his, shall I say, below average performance.

Here are the two quotes that I am referring to:

"He wanted to show off his arm, see how far he could throw," Linehan joked. "You know, he missed a couple of things. I think he sped things up a little bit, but he was close on a couple, and that's going to happen in the course of a game.

"I was really happy with the way he managed a couple of plays where he had to throw the ball away. If you get caught up in quarterback ratings and things like that, those certainly don't help, but that's still winning football. And I think other than the throw that was intercepted, he really didn't make a bad decision. To me that's how we're evaluating the quarterback position."

i appreciate your insight, but is this really that much of a question mark? i think it is obvious who will start week 1.

I made this prediction right after the Tampa game. This was when A.J. performed better than Gus, and several posts highlighted A.J. is the starter.

I am relatively new to this message board and trying to earn some respect. :D

My prediction: Gus half then SAGE

Its not going to matter, next year we will have a new QB wether it be through the draft FA or making a trade

We all have our moments.

Tell you what though. I'll make a prediction right now. I'll bet you that if Frerotte doesn't IMPROVE, he'll be benched in favor of SAGE.

Look at the date of the original post. It was after the Tampa Game when Feeley performed better than Gus. At that time there were many pulling for A.J. to start.

I was trying to make the point that the starting QB position was already decided by the coaching staff. The Offensive coordinator was making excuses for Gus's bad performance.

WOW WEE!! A coin toss prediction. Actually not even, we all knew Gus was Sabans favorite all along

thing you're forgetting is that frerotte has always looked like this. this is what he is. Feeley is young and has not yet had a legitimate shot to prove himself. Last year, i don't care who the QB is, no one will succeed in that sham of an offense. WANSTEDT APPOINTED THE COORDINATOR. THE FIRST GUY QUIT. WE HAD NO O LINE. BECAUSE OF THE **** LINE, ALL OUR RB'S GOT INJURED. not to mention, fiedler was the opening day starter last year...so he didnt even practice with the first team until he got thrown into the fire.....so noone tell me that feeley has gotten his shot. because he hasn't. do i think he'll succeed? only time will tell. and really, we probably won't have a good enough read on him until after 2006 season. gotta have time to learn linehans system.

How much time should we give him? 2 seasons? 3 seasons? QB's in this league are expected to learn new systems frequently, ie, every time their team changes coaches. Don't forget the coaches see him everyday in practice also.

Damn, the starting QB has been named and there are still those who cannot accept that there favorite one (Feeley) was not selected. To add insult to injury, he was bumped to 3rd string.

I'm not a Frerotte fan either, (Neither, actially) but at least I know when the HC makes the decision, we should accept it and move on from there.
If Frerotte stinks up the place as bad as everyone expects him to, Feeley will eventually be given a chance to move back up. Then the Feeley camp can then shout it from the roof tops!
