My Take On "Temper" And It's Function As Relating to AJ/Roth

I'm just glad to see him showing some emotion. He spent all of last season being a good soldier by not going off on his troops for their lack of efficiency. now, stuck with that same "team" he's not taking it anymore. That at least shows he has some grit. Now, it's Saban's job to help him turn that into something productive.

I seem to recall last season, there was a sideline incident between feeley and Sam Madison, didn't Madison chuck a ball at Feeley, or did he just yell at him??

I see where you are going. Excellent point. I misread your earlier intent. Appologies.

Counterpoint, is that, as a veteran, being a leader involves a number of things, including technical and, tactical competance (Competance used merely as a learned term on my part). I, personally, do not believe Feely showed enough last season to be considered the moral leader of the team. PArt of this was his fault and, part of it was poor leadership on the next level, IMO.

Leadership also involves controlled agression. I suppose this really does come down to opinion and, that, perhaps is where we differ. I just do not believe there is a reason, at any time, for the conduct that AJ showed. I would equate that to Roth throwing a helmet at a teammate. THAT would disturb me greatly, but, again, Roth's a rookie and, he's alowed some.

Problem: O-line not giving enough time.

I would expect, and, demand, AJ get in their faces and, DEMAND time. If a guy is getting beat, challenge him directly. Yelling and screaming is fine.

Problem: A back not catching the ball.

I would expect AJ to get in the back's face and, DEMAND that he catch the ball. Yelling and screaming is fine.

I do NOT excpect to see the QB fireing a ball with unreasonable velocity at someone. That is counter-productive in any sense, IMO. If AJ were a rookie, I could almost understand it, however, he's not.

Also, if you are going to be making demands for excecution, then, you better be able to produce when you are given that chance. Locking on...over/under throwing, mis-audibling (not accusing, just saying) are examples of the QB not producing. Not every situation is going to be perfect. I don't see AJ as Someone who can claim the moral authority to wing balls at people to gain thier compliance.

ETA: I'm not sure if your comment regarding the incident between Madison and AJ last year was meant as sarcasm or not. I will say:
1. I do not remember the incident. I've blocked most of last year.
2. If Madison DID chuck a ball at Feely, I'd still say that's not the most effective way of dealing with a situation, HOWEVER, I'd ALSO say Madison is CERTAINLY more proficent at his position than AJ is at his.

Hooah. Lead them troopers:D

29th ID (If that's your unit) is a fine unit with a proud heritage. My grandfather was in a unit that relieved one of the "Bloody Bucket's" battalions during the Heurtgen Forrest Campaign in WWII. Thank you for your service.

29th Let's Go! I posted the proud history and heritage of the 29th ID in the political forum a while back. My father had the privilege of serving the 29th Ranger Battalion and the 29th ID in WWII.

I agree with your post on Temper.

Blue and Grey Division, badly represented by the numbskull intell puke on "Saving Private Ryan"

We (active duty) did an ARTEP on thier Divisional Cavalry Squadron in '94. Best NG DivCav Squadron....EVER :D

I know there will be many here that don't understand. But THAT makes me proud and touches my soul. :D

As for the "Wimp" I never could understand that one.

It's regretable that the bravery of entire division's worth of warriors would be marred by one character's portrayal of a member of that unit.

Staff pukes are staff pukes, and, he wasn't cast as a warrior, but, it still has impact.

Thankfully, most people in the US are so painfully ignorant of those men who fell in the world's defense, that the blue and, grey "ying yang" symbol on his helmet isn't popularly recognized as the badge of so many brave men.

I'm not saying he did the right thing but, neither of us know exactly what transpired and neither of us is wearing his uncomfortable shoes right now. He's seems to be frustrated, angry, and tired of mistakes....here's to hoping he does something about it.

and my question was an honest one....I don't remember the specifics of the incident but, I will say that if Sam did throw a ball at Feeley he has no more right to do that than Feeley does. Yelling, screaming, whatever is fine but, getting physical, is not the right way to handle things and Sam being an accomplished veteran and an established leader, should be held to an even higher standard than Feeley, not vice versa.

I agree. Feeley showing some emotion, although not necessarily in a productive way, is hopefully a sign he's going to do something about his play. This is a guy who is notoriously bad in practice. A little bit of fire might get him going. Right now he needs to do SOMETHING because Gus has pulled out in front of him.

Conclusion: The difference here is in the channeling of agression. At THIS point, Roths is channeled correctly, Feely's is not. The underlying thing that disturbs most people, I think, is that Feely should know better.

I agree, Feely is going to lose the respect of his teamates with tantrums like this; while Roth is going to earn some.

It appears that you and I were raised from the same stock my friend.

I love the esoteric meaning of the Blue & Grey "ying yang" symbol of the "Fighting 29th".

We are taking this thread way off topic, so I'll say no more concerning our beloved military here in the football forum.

Hope to see you over in the political forum sometime.
