My take on the Offense vs Atlanta

I would trade Dion Jordan for SF's Carlos Hyde right now. He would be the perfect compliment to Miller and Moreno. Jordan is a bust (3rd pick) (just don't tell SF ..LOL)
Cut our losses and get the player who helps us this year. We have Shelby, Freeny, Fede...we have players that can rush the passer.
Trade Dion Jordan.

I would do that in a heartbeat!

My God, if we had Hyde......

I don't know that it's the vanilla version. From beat writer tweets, it's what they've been seeing in camp.

And I remember that one play where Tanny had the read option, rolled out and was going to run, then had to throw it to the sideline because he was going to get slammed, and the play really resulted in nothing because there was a man on his receiver, as well.

We need more up tempo, perfect timing, and TE's and RB's able to catch the ball and take a step to make someone miss, for this to finesse stuff to work.

I think Moreno is going to know how to execute this better. I don't have any faith in Lamar Miller, and Clay is our only proven TE, until we see more games.

That "beat writer" was Omar...no thanks. NO team goes out there in PS game 1 and shows their hand.

The increased tempo was explained as getting out of the huddle and to the center faster, and getting the play going faster...I saw some of that last night. It's not meant to be a full-time 2 minute offense, its main purpose is to give the defense less time to read and adjust...made the TD play pretty easy. Another base benefit of this offense is for the receivers to be able to stretch and operate in space. Saw a fair bit of that too, particularly on that 38-yard Matthews catch and run.

What I loved were the quick passes with the o-line run blocking, which I think happened at least twice on that opening drive. I noticed a team doing that a lot last season, I believe it was the Eagles coincidentally, and wondered why other teams didn't do it more. It takes a lot of pressure off the o-line and even lets them get a little revenge on the d-linemen, and helps disguise a lot.

Trading Jordan would be the dumbest think to do, he will be out best defense a player this year. He's been our best player all camp hands down.

Personally, I love what Bill Lazor's done so far and I love that he's here. It gives us hope. But execution is the bottom line, and talent on the roster makes a difference. I loved the first drive, although it didn't seem as up tempo as I expected it to be...and I was hoping once the second team got on the field, Lazor's offense would keep churning. But they went three and out right after Tannehill called it a night. That worries me a little because while scheme helps, it's not everything.

Here's the thing:

Who do you need to add to this formula (other than Mike Wallace)?

Pass complete to Miller for 6 yards
Pass complete to Matthews for 4 yards
Pass complete to Gibson for 8 yards
Pass complete to Miller for 2 yards
Pass complete to Matthews for 36 yards
Touchdown pass to Gibson for 6 yards

I think who you need to add is Knowshon Moreno.

I could be wrong, and maybe this is because Lamar Miller let me down a season ago and I had to drop him from my fantasy lineup...but again the buildup in camp was with Miller, and in this first preaseason game, to me anyway, he wasn't that impressive. He's a ok player who's going to make some big runs once in a while, and should have better stats in this offense than Sherman's. But we need everyone to step up to the next level, we need a strong running game, and a back who can also catch and block. I can't wait for Moreno to get in the game.

As far as guys like Gibson and Landry, both will make an impact this year. When Wallace steps in, hopefully they'll move him around like they promised, and have him actually be a difference-maker this year. Because every defense is not going to be the sh*tty Falcons. We're going to get the football shoved down our throat if we can't be better in the run game, and complete the long ball as soon as defenses start creeping up.

Go Dolphins!

who gives a damn about your fantasy team, it was clear the emphasize was on the passing game, i couldn't care less what happened to the running game, its a zone blocking scheme, running will take some more time, but the pass blocking was very good

I see you nothing about football if you think it's about passing and nothing else. And fyi, the "emphasize" was in fact the run game as far as the coaches were concerned, because they're trying to open running lanes in this new scheme, Philbin has talked about improving on that. I guess you missed that on the day you were yelling at the kids outside to get off your lawn.

I love this board! It was one possession in the first preseason game.

"Cut this guy" "Scheme needs adjusted" etc.

Got a newsflash for you, there WAS no scheming last night. Plainest, vanilla-ist playcalling.

And who cares?

Talk to me after game 3.

The offensive concepts are similar to what Chip Kelly does, which is good. But keep in mind, that the Falcons defense doesn't have a good pass rush, didn't look particularly good (it wasn't good last year) and didn't scout us at all.

So let's wait and see what happens before we draw too many conclusions about how it's going to perform.

Your right but I also see last nights game as a wash as far as the run game was concerned. I think the first team O would have gotten the running game to open up over time. Once Miller breaks into the open, it could be over provided he doesnt fumble at the 10 going in (pittsburgh). Waiting for Moreno to see something more but will still take time for him.

That's what tempers my enthusiasm. This is against the Falcons D, and it's preseason anyway.

Can't wait to get Moreno in there, to get our injured offensive guys back, at least Gibson is back but we need more. It's going to take a while to get this offense where it needs to be, but I like what Lazor is doing so far.

so honestly who would you cut over kyle miller ?

I would put him above egnew, hoskins and maybe lynch I haven't seen lynch play yet though. Clay and simms are the only locks but I'm guessing Lynch is too since we drafted him this year

Well I dont know about you, but there are little things I see that werent there consistently the last two years....and thats just get the first down. 3rd and two and you get the first down. keep moving. That is really all Brady does and then hits a long one. Which is what we did last night. Clearly RT has a predisposition to get the ball out to intended reciever. And thats without Wallace, Hartline, and Clay.

I wouldnt just yet. And I am looking through Philbins glasses. Egnew will still be on this team because his blocking is good now and he is a big target. Plays FB position from time to time. Youngins have to outshine that IMO and Philbin believes in a type of heirarchy of experience. But they wont resign him next year.

This years running back corp is just a stop gap fill. I honestly believe Moreno and Miller are playing this year to see which of the two will be back next year, the rest will be replaced through the draft.
