I disagree with the bulk of your rankings becasue we have too many unknowns at this time. I think the potential is there, but until it is proven, we do not rise in many of the categories.
I would list us more like:
QB: 1-NE, 2-NYJ, 3-MIA, 4-BUF. Feeley with experience and adding Frerotte is better than Losman.
RB: 1-NYJ, 2-NE, 3-BUF, 4-MIA. Brown hasn't done anything yet, Ricky is uncertain, and Gordon is coming off of injury. We all know what Martin, Dillon, and McGahee/Henry can do.
WR: 1a-MIA, 1b-BUF, 3-NYJ, 4-NE. Chambers, Booker, and Thompson have to get more consistent and Boston is coming off of major surgery. Jets getting Coles back is a bit scary. NE is starting to lose it. BUF has great speed.
TE: 1-MIA, 2-NE, 3-NYJ, 4-BUF. Linehan's 1 TE system makes us #1 since we don't have a reliable #2 TE. Still McMike needs to improve in the routine aspects of the game.
OL: 1-NYJ, 2-NE, 3-BUF, 4-MIA. We sucked last year. We added a coach, but not much else - so we have to wait and see before moving up here. I think we can move to #2 if Houck is the miracle-worker everyone is touting him to be.
DL: 1-NYJ, 2*-NE, 3*-MIA, 4-BUF. We need something more at DT (hopefully Wright). NE has Seymour holding out which will have a big impact on that line. If holds out all of camp and we get Wright, I flip-flop NE, MIA. If our FA and draft picks panout, we could jump to #1, but there is nothing to warrant such a move yet.
LB: 1-NE, 2-BUF, 3-MIA, 4-NYJ. We have guys that are getting older, coming off of injury, an infusion of youth, and a downgrade at DT (which impacts LB play). Unfortunately, the guys who should be in their prime right now are not anything to speak of. With the new system, there is a high probability of some serious mistakes made by the LB corps this year. NE could slide pending how they replace Bruschi. MIA with quick development of Crowder, situation LB play of JT, and solid performance by Spraggan could leap frog to #1.
DB: 1-BUF, 2-NE, 3-NYJ, 4-MIA. Sam is another year older, potentially a high-round draft pick starting (Daniels), and no idea who our safeties are going to be. Again, a signing and some quick development could alter the rankings, but too many questions right now.
ST: 1-BUF, 2-NE, 3-MIA, 4-NYJ. IMO, the only consistent ST bright-spot was Welker. BUA had A big hit, Mare was really inconsistent, and our long-snapping sucked. Mare's improvement and Perry's health are the critical factors here.
COACHING: 1-NYJ, 2-BUF, 3-NE, 4-MIA. NE drops because no one knows how the loss of the DC, the OC, and several assistants will impact them. MIA is at the bottom because Nick is new and the whole staff and system are just getting put in place. NYJ - Herm Edwards has done a pretty steady job and in BUF, Mularky got results his first year in. We have the potential to leap frog big time here, hhowever, NE has the same opportunity. This order could easily (I hope) get reversed.
One thing you forgot to rank: INTANGIBLES. Where teams just seem to find some crazy way to win or the ball just seems to bounce their way.
INTANGIBLES: 1-NE, 2-NYJ, 3-BUF, 4-MIA. NE has had this locked for four years now. In fact, their rise to dominance can be attributed to two freak plays - Bledsoe getting his lung collapsed, and the fumble that wasn't against Oakland. MIA we have not had a break in a while - we are due.
