Nasty's Notes III (From Camp)

Your Donald Lee assesment is right on. TIGHT END is a HUGE problem for this team right now. We have Randy and nobody else. Donald Lee can't play. He can't block without getting called for holding. He makes a ton of mental mistakes. He is average when he runs routes and needs to make a catch. Tight End is a huge problem area I wouldn't be shocked to see Miami go out and pick up a TE that is dropped from another team in a few weeks.

Linehan likes a bigger TE, so look out for Alex Holmes, who has shown some pretty decent skilz catching the ball, and has 20 some pounds on Lee.

Did Keith Traylor practice, or did he ride the bike?

What about Tebucky Jones?

Is Junior Seau looking better?

Thanks!

Problem is since he has been in the NFL, when he blocks he gets called for holding it seemsl ike 50% of the time. He might have been a good blocker in college but on the NFL level he is an average blocker at best.

If you watch players in the nfl holding could be called on every play. I never really understood what is actually holding and what isn't holding. Lee's problem so far has been offside pentalties.

The problem he has with holding is basically learning how not to get caught. I still remember my highschool coaches telling me to look at the college game when learning how to block because all they do is hold in the NFL.

I live way out on the left coast, so I want to say thank you so much man! You are a godsend to the information deficient side of the US. You also do a great job of writing. I love Ozzy too. I also appreciate all the folks that contribute and the website owners! Thanks!

Now, I feel pretty excited about this season. Amazingly I really don't even care how many games we win (at least to a point), because I am more excited about seeing new players, new schemes, and the coaching of Saban.

I have a question Nasty. What seems to be the cause of Roth's struggles?

Thanks.

Basicly... he is a rookie. It usually takes a little time to adjust to the NFL. It is only the 5th day of spring traing. We are a lil spoild with the performance of Travis Daniels... but thats because he didnt really have to adjust. Roth will improve as TC goes on. You can definatly see he has the potential and quickness...

But if you are askin what exactly he is struggling with... His main problem right now IMO is sheding linemen. He gets off the line real quick... but then gets locked up. In college, his quickness was all he needed. In the NFL, the linemen are better, and you need more than just quickness. You need moves as well. Multiple moves if you are gunna be really successful so you can mix it up and be unpredictable to the lineman. Inside and outside moves...

If you or anyone else has any questions... ask...

Thanks man. I can imagine different scenarios, but most of us can only watch through the eyes of the attendees.

Perhaps Roth will acquire better technique with time, as you said he is only a rookie, or maybe his physical limitations will push him into the hybrid DE/LB role. I wonder, have you or anyone else observed him doing his cover drills? Or does he do cover drills?

I watch a crap pot of football and understand the stuff, but I played soccer my whole life so I can't say I know what drills the team might do during camp.

Thanks again.

damn nasty great report bro very nice job i give a (a+) hey how is the o-line looking that is what im really worried about the most and the qb's of course.

Maybe Im on crack...but nobody has mentioned Kay Jay Harris.....and also are we running alot of draw plays or screens....seems like when i watch lets say the old bills tapes...with thurman thomas....man could they run the screen...we NEVER stopped it...(Tom Outofajobie Defense) And it just seems like we dont sell the screen....ever...especially last year...saw tons of screen plays for for negative losses. Just wonderin.....man Nasty what all of us wouldnt give to be in your shoes at practice.....nice job man.
