New Fin Saftey... Billy Parker

Well it's nice to know that we signed the Defensive Player with the most Interceptions. But does anyone know much about this guy or how he plays? Does anyone think that there's any chance of him making Practice Squad or just camp fodder to add more competition to the Safeties?

Yeah, I don't buy into it much either. The guy asked if 10 INTs was a lot in arena league, and I just gave him an example of how it stacked up.

Well I think ints in the AFL are alot easier because there is less field to cover for DBs... but... it still means that he can read a QB and catch the football...

Does anyone know if he is a SS or a FS?

Nasty

We need to get our FS problem solved. I don't have that much confidence in Tillman. I know Bobby Taylor is on our short list of desired CBs but at this point in his career he's probably better suited for FS, or Saban could just move Travis Daniels back there.

Kiper had him listed as the 76th CB coming out of college with a grade of 4.0 which is undrafted free agent range.

Coyle had him as the 37th CB with a 60 rating which transaltes out about the same.

PFW had him as the 74 th CB with a 4.30 rating, again abvout the same.

He must have learned S in the AFL.

OK... I know we signed him a few days ago and that this isnt breakin news or anything. But what do you guys know about him? Is he a FS or a SS? He sounds like he has good hands wit 10 ints in the Arena League (even though it is alot easier to get a int in the AFL). Do you think he can push for a starting spot or no? Anyone have a bio or some info like size and speed? I am pretty sure he is young... Your thoughts?

I just hope he's our next O. Gadenson, but this time on D. :D

B4 i scrolled down enough to read your post i saw the 4.30, it just kinda sticks out i guess, then however i read your post and realized it wasnt a 40 time but a ranking.... really disappointing

All three services had two guys we had in camp last year as undrafted free agents, Kelvin Millhouse of Hawaii and Quentin Williams of Wake Forest as higher rated prospects coming out of college. Perhaps Parker is a late bloomer?

i wouldn´t put my hopes up because we signed a S out of the AFL, i would be truly shocked if this guy would have any impact

marcus nash is the leading receiver and michael bishop is the leading rusher in this league

I wouldn't be so fast to dismiss the AFL for talent either. Seems that some very decent players have come out of there......including a WR named Oronde Gadsden. I don't recall many people laughing at him when he would go up in the corner of the EZ and pull down 6 points.

In college he was a CB. In the AFL he was a DS (Defensive Specialist).

IMO he is camp fodder.Or at least that was the reason he was brought in for.He has a short window of time in which he can prove he has skills and in which the coaches will take notice. If there is anything there he will survive the first cuts.I think he needs to prove he can be a an effective ST player before anything else.

The big question is how many safeties will we carry this season? In the past we have typically carried 5 but with the new coaching staff the question is open, not to mention what we will do with Tillman injured. We have four who, as of now, are likely to make the 53 man roster. Tebucky Jones, Taveres Tillman, Yeremiah Bell, and Tony Bua (he is a question mark but because of his special team play I think he is likely). After that we have Chris Akins, an established NFL special team star trying to come back from an injury. Then there are four more guys with roughly equal credentials.

Jack Hunt played for Saban in college, did a good job in NFLE, and knows the system.

Abram Elam has a lot of talent, a lot of baggage, and not much recent playing time. Did I mention he has a lot of talent?

Quintin Williams spent nine weeks on our practice squad last year and played in five or six games as a reserve/special teamer. He carried a draftable grade in most "expert" draft mags.

Now Billy Parker, rookie of the year and all-pro in the AFL.

After them, in my opinion, are Deandre Eiland and Atari Bigby who are among the longest shots on the training camp roster.

Having written all of that, would I like another safety with veteran experiance. I'm more convinced than ever!

anyone know how old he is?

This year would of been his 3rd year in the NFL if he could stay with a team, so i say he is about 25 yrs old.
