New (linehan) vs Old (Norv)Offensive system

Norval is solid. He has not really been a bust. We did ok here with Fiedler as QB. He did well in San Diego, and he busted in Washington because he is a poor GM. He will most likely bust in Oakland with Al as his GM too. He is no slouch though.

Norv Turner is one of the most overrated coaches around. Mortenson blows this guy for some reason. What has he done? He was the OC during the SB runs in Dallas - WOW! Jimmy was in his prime and added so much talent who couldn't succeed. They had a HUGE Oline and ran the ball down people's throats and every now and then Troy tossed it long to Irvin or Harper. Great D and great Oline won there. What has he done since?? Redskins - bust! Miami - bust! Raiders so far - bust! IMO he is highly overrated and I don't see why his "system" is so highly touted. Dallas was so much more talented than everyone else. Heck Wanny and Davis were the DC's there - that tells you how good the coordinators had to be! They have done zip since. I believe that Jimmy ran that show there and the coordinators were puppets. Just look at the success of all his coordinators since then.

hahahah I agree with you on that one.

only time will tell...

moss likes being a raider good for him...

lets see how he feels in 6 games and his numbers are down..

Turner's offense was severely handcuffed in Miami by two things. Dave Wannstedt and a lack of talent at the QB position.

Much like Scott Linehan's offense, Norv Turner loves to throw the ball down the field. He didn't have the gun to do that in Miami.

You will find that, in the grand scheme of things, there isn't a nickle's worth of difference between the offense Linehan runs and the offense Turner runs. The largest differences will be in the formations. Norv is a predominate two back, I Formation, two wide coach. He will go to three wide, but you will rarely see Norv run out more than 3 receivers at a time. Norv loves utilizing all of his receiving options as well. He loves getting passes to the fullback and tight end in the flats, and he loves to open up the downfield passing game to the wide receivers. The staple route in Norv's offense is the deep out.

Scott Linehan has run more of a one back set with an H-Back. Unlike Norv, Scott will use a lot of multiple wide receiver formations, and he will also use a lot of two tight end formations.

Norv's offense is derived from Don Coryell's offense.
Scott's offense is derived from Joe Gibbs's offense, which is actually a derivative of Don Coryell's offense.

great job man , that was a good read

this is WAY to complex to try and break down in a paragraph or two...i'll just say that pretty much everyone in the nfl runs the same plays. the only thing that is really different is when they are called and the particular route combinations that are used.

Who had the quote in their signature where Norv was quoted cursing upstairs in the Miami coach box during a game about how weak the offensive talent was?

Speaking of Daunte, isn't he a FA next year ? God, I hope we can pick him up!!

Chan Gailey's offense was more effective than Norv's and was better suited for Fiedler. Fiedler was not a Norv type QB.

I saw the little interview thing on NFL live yesterday.

Here's the quote from Randy:

[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]"The playbook in Minnesota was more like one plus one. This playbook here is like Algebra II.''

I'm guessing that he had a tough time with math. I almost fell out of my chair when he said that.
