NEWSFLASH: Coaches Don't Matter!!

Stop drinking in the middle of the day brother. The Lions are winning because they now have a great QB, the best WR in the game, a top notch DL and a better supporting cast. All being directed by much better coaching.

As I asked on another thread.....so by your theory if you made Dave Wannedstet the coach of the Patriots they would be just as good as they are now?? Please think about that before you answer!!

They might not have become a dynasty, but they definitely would be perrenial contenders, just as they are now. Brady runs that ship. If this weren't the case, Belichick wouldn't have flamed out of Cleveland with Kosar and Testaverde...

FYI, you just made my argument for me. The Lions are winning because of superior talent.

more and more now, head coaches and not OC's are calling offensive plays. Look at NO and Dallas.

We need a hc with actual skills. I know that is new, but that is the way today's NFL is going

"coaches dont matter"

SEE - MIAMI DOLPHINS.

a coach could, and would turn this mess around, but this franchise needs a single direction... a coach that has final say on all decisions.

A great coach may be able to compensate directly and indirectly for mediocre QBing, while a great QB would be hard pressed to overcome bad coaching which includes bad scheming by his delegated coordinators and bad roster staffing. So that's a resounding "O to the Nizzay" re your premise.

The Colts may have the same Head Coach as their Super Bowl appearance, but the real head coach on the Colts is Manning. He's their HC, OC, and QB. Coaches are huge in sports. That's usually why the best teams have the best coaches.

If given the choice of 15 years with Peyton manning or 15 years with harbaugh, Schwartz, shanahan, belichick or cowher, I'm taking manning

Edit: you can also replace manning with Brady, Rodgers, or brees.

One only needs to look at a better QB than Eli Manning: Archie and how despite that and the personal recognition he received, his career wilted in the suckage that was the old Saints.

With everyone hemming and hawing over who will be the next headcoach of the Dolphins, I would just like to add something that should be quite obvious to everyone: The headcoach doesn't matter, QBs do!

You can look no further than Indianapolis...
People around here should really stop trying to support a point with just ONE example.

If you were about to take a pill and were told that just ONE person had taken it and had a positive effect, would you be sold on it?

Come on people. Ramp up your game here if you're going to start threads.

15 years of Manning has barely produced one championship and that came when Manning had one good half throughout the '06 postseason.

I can't believe anyone thinks Caldwell is a good coach or that he is in any way responsible for the Colts' success. The coach does matter and we should all be a little pissed off that we didn't land Harbaugh. The end.

Want other examples? OK:

Norv Turner + Phil Rivers
Turner was a complete bust at several teams, but got to the AFC Championship Game thanks to a stud QB

Mike McCarthy + Aaron Rodgers
Mike McCarthy was being pushed out of town by the fanbase (similar to the Dolfans V. Sparano) until Rodgers became Superman.

Brad Childress + Brett Favre
Childress was a disaster in Minny before Favre showed up. Favre, reinvigorated with pure hatred for Ted Thompson and the Packers, gave Childress one of his best years as a QB. Childress was able to make it a play away from the Superbowl, but we all saw what happened once Favre's light went out... Fired halfway through the next season.

This has happened countless times throughout the years.

Bottomline: an elite QB is LIGHT YEARS more important than whoever the Headcoach is. If Childress could bring a team a step away from the Superbowl with exceptional QB play, yes, even our beloved meatball could take a team to the Superbowl with an elite QB.
