NFL combine update

No, but then again it doesn't really matter much. I hate the combine. It doesn't prove anything and I think it's a waste of time. Football is a team sport and showcasing speed, jumping for vertical, and doing other INDIVIDUAL skills workouts without full pads proves NOTHING about how you will play with 10 other teammates on the field playing against 11 opponents. The media has overhyped the combine, and sadly enough it has become a major factor on draft positioning.

Of course, and it STILL is the main form of evaluating players, but you can't tell me the combine is worthless. Size, speed and strenght ARE important, maybe not as important as watching a player on film, but still important.

It's not a waste of time. Rick Speilman certainly doesn't feel it's a waste of time. And I don't think it has anything to do with media attention. He dislikes the fact that so many guys don't show up.

The Combine makes or breaks alot of guys as far as draft status. It literally can make millions for a guy. Not to mention gives teams an up close and personal view of a guy in unfamiliar territory. You get to see how he performs in those kinds of circumstances.

Remember, everything has it's place. Game film has it's place. Individual workouts have their place. It's up to you, the personnel man, to put the proper amount of emphasis on each component.

Here's the olineman:

How many people have done great in the combine, but suck when they actually play, and vice versa. Why do you think some players choose not to participate in the combine?? Because players know that if they do bad on that particular day their stock will drop and I think that's bull$hit. It doesn't matter what you can do in those workouts. That's not football. Football is lining up against your opponent and beating them, not running 40s and jumping and catching etc. Like I said this is what the combine has become, a tool for people to evaluate players, and it's not a fair evaluation of talent. I would rather see a few more college All Star games ran with NFL typr plays.

The only part of the combine worth anything is the interviews... That's about it.. If you want to see the players speed, watch their games they rarely run in a straight line during a game..

I can't wait to here what they think of Shannon Snell's quickness......

A year ago this guy was considered the best interior O-lineman in college......now he is projected in the third round.

Shawn Andrews weighed in at 366?? OK so now does that give Miami no chance at drafting him?

I agree with you to a certain degree but if you can't catch at the combine with nobody around you & in shorts & a shirt then you can't catch. The bench is a very telling stat for lineman & deserve scrutiny.

The combine is also important for QB's..........If a guy can't hit a route.....a guy can't hit a route..............It's sometimes that simple.

Shawn Andrews verified a story we posted last week; he was in fact over 400-pounds but has been on a crash diet, working out twice daily and lost some 35-pounds the past six weeks.
