NFL DRAFT & RUMORS MEGATHREAD

Well Caldwell is built more like a NT. Walker is too tall and has a small base for somebody of his size.
Apparently he played through back issues last season, (Walker), which, if he could fully recover from, could be considered a positive. Same goes for Shemar Turner. He played hurt most of the season. Something lower unit. Did not shut it down. This also speaks to his dedication.
If we take Graham or Grant in the 1st, IMO, Turner in the 3rd, and Walker on the 3rd day, 4-5 range, wouldn't be a bad way to go.

Since I want us to draft beef on the hoof tonight, I'm eating only beef today. I have a 5 lb beef rib roast slow cooking since last evening, and that is going to be all my caloric intake for today. Likely the same for tomorrow too. 5 lbs of red meat is enough to last me me through all three days.
Any of y'all want to eat some wussy foods, like quiche, soufflés, fruit cups, etc, on draft weekend, well, you do you. It is all red meat for this here cowboy.

DL is the deepest position in the draft, which plays in our favor. If somehow any of the top 4 OLs who could plug in as day 1 starters are available at 13, I think we should take him. Graham is the only possibility to not. At 13, in order, I'd want Graham, Campbell, Membou, Banks, or Zabel. If it's Graham, we still need to draft two more IDLs. Which, in this draft, is totally doable. If we go OL at 13, we should still be able to land 3 IDLs throughout the rest of the process. IMO, you need to draft 3 to better ensure netting two.
I’m not convinced Miami is going to prioritize OL over DL.

His purview at Texas has been his pass blocking. He's not a bad run blocker by any means, but in pass pro, he has been elite. His feet and lateral movement skills, his core strength to absorb a bull rush, all are more than just good. As someone else here said the other day, if we pick Banks or Membou and played them at OG as rookies, we could be playing our best OT at OG.
He's ready to hit the ground running if Miami takes him because Texas runs a similar offense. The LG, Hayden Conner, said they watch Miami's plays and copy them. He'd make a good 3rd day pick for us, too.

Don’t think it’s an issue to play our best tackle at guard as long as he’s a good guard. Tackle play is a bonus if we end up moving on from Tua but I think with the way our offense has primarily conducted and with Tua’s ability to get the ball out quickly that guard play is more important than tackle play. We saw last year with constant inside pressure everything was thrown off. With Jackson’s athleticism and Paul’s pure size as long as they can prevent getting beat inside often, any outside pressure still gives Tua time to get the ball off successfully. However it is hard to pocket pass when the inside of the pocket is instantly gone.

That’s the value of taking one of the top 3 between Campbell/membou/banks is you do have that insurance policy and flexibility to put the best 5 on the field so even if one of the tackles goes down maybe coaches like banks at tackle and we can get better guard play from someone else probably not on the roster yet rather than having Borom fill in for tackle.

I asked in a different post, but you didn't respond. If Ward, Hunter, Abdul Carter, Graham, Will Campbell, and Membou are all gone as expected and Miami is stuck picking at 13, which I also expect, and every other prospect in the whole draft is available at 13, who would you take?
Highest risk/Highest reward - Josh Simmons. None of us know his medical and patellar tears are scary. Top 5-8 play if healthy. I would be putting a lot of faith in the doctors if i pick him, so for this, i can't. Too much of an unknown. If just an ACL, he's probably my guy.

Highest non-medical upside, swinging for fences guy.....i'm taking Mykel Williams. Can we do that? Probably not bc of Chubb and Phillips. If you plan to move on from Chubb and only have Chop/Phillips, then hell yes i'm open to it.

If we settle on OL - Zabel, Banks. I love Zabel's game....athletic and physical. Plug and play OG/C, depending on how you structure your roster. I HATE taking guards top half of R1 and would only do so bc this is a weak R1 draft and he offers position flexibility. Banks offers more value at OT and think he projects to OG as well. Who i pick would depend on how i plan to use my R2/R3 picks and how i'm building my roster. If you target guys like Jared Wilson R2 (a guy i absolutely love) or Mbow, who can possibly play OG/C, then you probably go Banks. If you target an OT R2 or truly believe in Patrick Paul (which i don't), you go Zabel.

I wouldn't hate Barron. I like the player and love his versatility. He's Trent McDuffie light....just not as physical imo. It's just that he'll be a 24yr old rookie and if he plays 5 years, 29 entering his second contract, with CBs declining ~30.

Best moves for the Dolphins tonight is stick at 13 and see who is there, and if someone really drops on offensive defensive line grab them. If not trade back 3 to 6 picks and pick up an extra second rounder, and we will still get the same quality type of player. Plus it will get us another starter with the extra 2nd, and could use one of our later picks with the 2nd or trade Ramsey and a 2nd to get back into the late first round.

I see his Walker’s best case scenario as being developed into a Calais Campbell role more than I see him as a DT/NT prospect. He still needs some polish but I’d think he has a better chance of contributing there than being in the middle full time.
