Adam Shefner (sp?) on NFL Total Access on the NFL Network just talked about Saban and the Dolphins. He said after seeing whats going on down here in Miami, that there is no doubt in his mind that we will win atleast 9 games this season...

Thought you all might like that...

Yeah, caught it, but really I don't see his logic...sure we haven't had back to back losing seasons since the first couple of years, but we had the privilege of having one of the greatest coaches of all time for 25 years of the franchise...since then, it would be much more likely that we could go into a slump...frankly, with the way Wanny ran things, I'm surprised we haven't....

I think 9-7 is accurate, possibly even a little modest. This team was a .500 team last year (after Wanny left). Clearly the addition of Saban regime, Ricky Willims, Ronnie Brown, Matt Roth, Channing Crowder, etc., etc. hasn't made the team THAT much worse than they were last year. Look, way too much has been made of the 4-12 season last year. The team was 10-6 the year before. Talent doesn't rise and fall like that. Last years record (before Wanny left) was more of an indication of VERY poor coaching and players who just didn't believe anymore. When I compare this years team to the one the year before last that went 10-6 I think this years team is better. So 9-7 isn't a reach IMO.

I sound like a broken record but here's the thing. It is easier than ever to turn around a football team quickly nowadays. The old fashioned fans still believe it takes years and years of rebuilding to compete but it doesn't. The bottom line is that the fans who think the Dolphins have no chance to be good are just as stupid as the guys who think the Dolphins are a guarenteed playoff team. It really is about 50/50.

Fans and the media live and die with the last thing they remember which is the Dolphins sucking.

So does this mean he is one of the "good reporters"?

I have been reading Adam Schechter for years...he was a good sportswriter for the Denver Post.....9 wins is a nice prediction....but we still have to get it done of the field.

I believe that is part of the reason why Saban has 22 coaches on his staff.

Well if that's what you believe, and you haven't read his book do so. Then your belief will be confirmed.

His philosophy is just like the armies. "Be all that you can be". He wants everyone on his team and staff to excell and rise to their potential. He is a VERY structured man.

If they could promise us 9 wins right now, i'd take it, PERIOD! That's improvement, 5 win's from a first year coach that doesn't have all HIS players in place yet. I will certainly take 9 wins.

That's what I'm talking about baby. We are going to shock the world..If he's that confident, I'm even more confident about our trip to the SB this year..

The key is to groom an offensive coach and have him ready to take over the playcalling, becuase Leinhan is the "hot" assistant in this league. And many insiders are reporting he will have head coaching offers left and right starting next offseason. He was looked upon in a very positive light for his work in Minnesota and he is the next young guy in the mold of a Gruden, Reid...etc who will be a head coach very very soon. It's key that Saban have an assistant work shoulder-shoulder with Leinhan all season and be in on gameplanning and playcalling, becuase when Miami is making a run hopefully in 2 or 3 years, odds are Leinhan won't be here.

I was thinking the samething.. But who ? one of the Garret brothers ? Or maybe the receiver's coach??

Anyone read the recent quote "predictions" on yahoo sports yet? Miami is last again with the 5-11 record and what do you know, everyone is still brown-nosing the Pats with 12-4. Did anyone see that the Pats lost both offensive and defensive coaches along with a quarter of the defense and the new coaches are who?!? Seriously, I'll be glad when this whole Pat "dynasty" of winning 3 superbowls by a total of 9 points comes to an end. :shakeno:

IMO Linehan has a lot to prove. You could have Kippy Brown calling the plays with a Randy Moss and Culpepper, and he would make a glorious chicken salad....or at least it would seem so.

Until Linehan makes lightnening strike twice, I believe most teams will have a reserved opinion of his -still yet to be proven- skills as an OC.

Yeah it's a change, and not a good one. We need every media source around to say how terrible we are gonna be. Nothing gets players more juiced, and builds more team chemistry, than to think it's them against the whole world.
On the other hand, if they start telling us how we have already turned it all around, then there is less motivation to prove everyone wrong.
I liked it a LOT better when we were supposed to be 4-12. I think they are just saying this to mess us up even more. I guess it's true, they really do hate us;)

I think JT said that he doesnt give a **** what the media says so I doubt it will have an impact on the team.

I like the praise we have been gettiing.

I heard the comments live. He did like the job Saban was doing, but he based the prediction on the fact that Miami has not had consecutive losing seasons since 1968-69. It was somewhat tongue in cheek.

Looks like we are not the only ones who think the phins are capable of 8+ wins this season. :D
