"Pouncey made his first Pro Bowl last season and is to make $1.638 million in 2014. However, taking part in the harassment of teammate Jonathan Martin, along with Richie Incognito and John Jerry, is reason enough to deny Pouncey a long-term extension. Pouncey is a good player, but it would probably send a bad message throughout the organization and around the league to reward Pouncey after the questionable year he’s had off the field."

A lot can happen between now and next season. If he gets out of the Hernandez stuff, keeps out of trouble, and performs well on the field, he is an asset to the team. I gotta say I like Hickey's hard nose approach thus far.
 
why would we? we can sign him for next year cheaper under his rookie deal
 
Sounds like speculation at this point, let's see where things are one year from now. I have a feeling people won't be so sensitive about the Martin fiasco by then
 
I want Pouncey on this team. You don't just let talent like that walk.
With that being said, I'd definitely look to draft a C at a certain point as an insurance policy.
Stork from FSU wouldn't be a bad option if he falls into 2nd or even lower. It just sucks to know that we will have to pass up on playmakers in the draft to accommodate such a depleted line.
 
So.... in other words

Pouncey will be given long term deal after the season is over and we will basically have a under the table hand shake deal, waiting for the PR mess to blow over.

Pouncey will clean up his act, attend some counceling session etc.

Hopefully they can get him at a cheaper rate. I think he should have to do some counseling, get fined, etc...anything to prevent a long suspension

Basically.

If Ray Lewis can come back from murder to be this born-again man of God etc etc..... Pouncey stuff looks like the cub scouts compares to that.

I think it has more to do with the drugs than the bullygate......being the drug kingpin of the team and the only NFL player who played with Hernandez in college, forced to answer questions in front of a grand jury would make any one pause before signing him to a large guaranteed contract worth millions.....

It's different when being "born again" is real.........Pouncey has not repented of anything at this point and he may not ever chose to do so. His maddness is his all alone, no need for comparisons with anyone else.
 
We can extend Pouncey through 2015 on his rookie contract by guaranteeing that salary by May. Don't know why we would be thinking about it now.

I agree, but if Pouncey camp is smart he will have some very "public" apperances at counceling centers and talking to the kids about anti-bully stuff, etc.

I'm sure Pouncey camp recognizes millions of dollars are on the line and won't make any dumb moves (or so we hope).

If Pouncey doesn't clean up his act he is gone from the Dolphins at the end of the day. But I think we are foolish to think the Dolphins and Pouncey camp won't do everything in their power to clean up Pouncey and his image. Doubt he will go the Ray Lewis extreme but enough for people to forget he poked fun at a teammate and a trainer.

The drug stuff is just hear-say, and his "connection" to Hernandez is irrelevant IMO. Sure he was stupid to wear the hat but not even his brother is getting bashed for that. Media is just using that as the "cherry-on-top".
 
I would not extend him now. No need to do it now and he is not in a position to demand more cash.

If he minds his business next year and plays well, then you can look at extending.

Plus, there is a strong chance another GM and HC will have to make this decision anyways.
