NFL Rumors: Miami Dolphins not expected to give Mike Pouncey long-term deal

The drug stuff is just hear-say, and his "connection" to Hernandez is irrelevant IMO.
I don't think you can say the drug stuff is just hearsay. No, we don't have any video evidence of him doing a Rob Ford crackathon, but I think there's more than enough verbal/written evidence to say with certainty that Pouncey's a user and very likely a commercial distributor of illicit substances. You'd have to have your head buried rather deeply in a tight crevice to think otherwise.

Why give Pouncey a long term deal now? You don't reward immaturity.

I think we can both agree easily 50% plus of the league are drug users. Some maybe more "hardcore" drugs than others. As for the distributor stuff, all I have heard is Pouncey having drug partys which does not signify distribution, rather everyone bring your stuff and have a good time.

In legal view though, all we have is some texts from a suicidal, depreseed, drug abusing football player to go off of.

So.... in other words

Pouncey will be given long term deal after the season is over and we will basically have a under the table hand shake deal, waiting for the PR mess to blow over.

Pouncey will clean up his act, attend some counceling session etc.

I'll believe this when I see it.

I would not extend him now. No need to do it now and he is not in a position to demand more cash.

If he minds his business next year and plays well, then you can look at extending.

Plus, there is a strong chance another GM and HC will have to make this decision anyways.

Plus, he may have higher trade value if a team isn't having to take on a monster contract on top of giving up a high pick.

Stork from FSU wouldn't be a bad option if he falls into 2nd or even lower. It just sucks to know that we will have to pass up on playmakers in the draft to accommodate such a depleted line.

After watching Stork get run over in the Senior Bowl I'm guessing hes a late Day three or UDFA. Gotta be concerned about the concussions as well.

Looking at the top C's in the NFL, wasn't Kalil a 2nd rounder (around the same spot we took Samson Satele)? Where was Mack taken? What about Maukrice Pouncey? If I'm not mistaken, Mike Pouncey was the highest drafted Center in the history of the NFL ... that's kinda high. We might not need to draft his replacement quite as high. If we're not going to re-sign him ... let's get something for him.

This is dumb. Mike Vick lead a dog fighting ring and got a second chance.

no one's saying he isn't going to get a "2nd chance" The argument is to whether we should reward him with an extension right now. No one is casting Pouncey out and not giving him a chance in the league lol

I seriously believe you guys don't want to pay ANYONE.

You keep saying let's get a player to a certain level, then cut him loose and bring in a "younger" or "more cap-friendly" player to take his place.

How will this team ever be above .500 if we keep churning the roster and rebuilding every 3 years when contracts expire? At some point you HAVE to keep the producers.

I keep hearing in here let Grimes or Soliai or Starks or Pouncey or Clemons or Carroll move on. I am SICK of "blow up and rebuild", it NEVER works.

No reason to do it now. Wait until next offseason and pick up his 5th year option or extend him then.

This is something to be decided next year not now. If Mike cleans up his act and continues playing at a high level of course you resign him.
If not you look to move him for a good price and find his replacement.

I think Philbin and the organization will not tolerate even the slightly of bad behavior going forward and that includes their star players of which Pouncy is one. Mike has no choice but to walk the straight and narrow or even his good play will not save him. He may still be suspended for a few games next season and that will hit him where it hurts. His bank account. That should get his attention and hopefully he goes to many more pro bowls as a member of the Dolphins. If not say goodbye.

Drug test him twice a week, every week and let the sniffer dogs check out his home. We never got any explanation about the Martin/Incognito text pertaining to molly at Pouncey's. It was probably just forgotten by most. But the implication was "molly" is a hard drug similar to ecstasy, not just a girl's name. And why would it be available at Pouncey's place? He is a good player but if he is the source of hard drugs on the team, he may have to go. Marijuana is minor and will probably be legalized in more states and develop as a major industry, but the reference to hard drugs on the team is extremely disturbing.
The link between Aaron Hernandez and Pouncey is also scary. We don't know what came out of the Pouncey subpoena at the Grand Jury. However, there was a reference to Pouncey being with Hernandez on the evening that one of the persons murdered years before. Hernandez appears to have been setting himself up as a major crime figure.
