Practice Squad
This OL has the potential to be middle of the road (12th to 18th in the league) and that excites me considering this OL was definately in the bottom few hanging out with the Giants,Arizona's & Clevelands line.
PassRush said:I have to agree. I dont think any one of our linemen can be fairly judged from last season. I believe that Damion McIntosh is one of the better tackles in the league
Trackstar said:I guess I should have explained more. There were other lineman on the board at that time (2004) that I thought we should take in the later rounds. I was never super impressed with Carey. Chris Snee, and Justin Smiley were the guys I was impressed with. If Gallery and Andrews were off the board by our pick, I didn't see us picking an O-lineman in the first. I thought it would make more sense to grab Snee or Smiley in the later rounds.
LAphinfan said:Are you suggesting that passing up a stud DT and trading a 1st and 4th for a backup G/T and passing up a probowl G in round 2 was not a solid move?? That's why your not in charge of this team's drafts and Rick Spiel....oh, wait. Nevermind :rofl3:
VanDolPhan said:Hindsight is 20/20. We needed OL at the time. We didn't think we'd need DT's as Bowens/Chester were relatively healthy at the time. For all we know we might have a pretty darn good LT by the time all is said and done with Carey.
Awsi Dooger said:Well, I wish I was posting here at the time. On a Dolphin newsgroup I've been posting since 2003 that DT is our biggest need other than QB. I stand by that emphatically. Especially since you can find gem offensive linemen in weird places, not necessarily the early rounds.
At DT I'm frustrated beyond description we tolerate talentless Larry Chester. Especially combining him with Tim Bowens after Bowens declined in disruptive ability. Settling for two guys who can't get upfield and then subbing tiny DE types at DT on passing downs was perfect symbolism of the personnel idiocy of Spielman/Wanny.
That's because there wasn't anybody else who believed that Wilfork would be there when we picked. Most everyone had him going in the top 10-15 picks.VanDolPhan said:Yup but if Carey turns into a decent LT then this whole battle is a moot point cause rarely do you get LT's after the first round.
Your one of the few on the DT front that can speak up. On this board there was one user who even mentioned Wilfork's name prior to the draft.

I'm sure that there were many who would have wanted him, if they thought we had a snowball's chance in **** of getting him with the 20th pick.
VanDolPhan said:Wasn't many screaming for him when our pick came up either.

Jimmy James said:You're right about that. I remember that draft day well because it was almost literally me against the entire rest of the board. I pretty well blasted the pick from the moment it happened, and a big part of it was that I felt like value drafting and drafting for a need coincided so nicely with VW. I knew we were headed for trouble at DT (though we had more than I thought we would due to Chester's injury).
VanDolPhan said:Yup but at the same time it was a lose lose proposition. Spielman would have been blasted for going defense. The media and the fans were ranting on and on that we needed an offensive player.
All I can do is not worry about the past and hope that Carey steps up and plays good at LT. Besides at the very least there are some very good DT's expected to go in the 1st next year (3 or 4 I believe) so we should have a shot at a time when were more likely to compete.
