No RB or QB taken?

Williams is a good sized dude, 6' and 210 or so and can go the distance. He got suspended from the team last season, so he's got a sort of Vontaze Burfict feel about him.

WE DID GET A QB. this o-line absolutely had to be rebuilt and the focus on the draft was to do just that by going o-line early and often. james and billy turner [one of my fav players in this draft] will both start and play with the fins for a long time. shelly smith has only seen a handful of games and the ones he did play in was off the bench or short time notice. i believe he is going to be a very good guard and could be the starting rt guard on the line with turner at lg [BT is going to play guard, not tackle and he said before the draft he wants to play guard in the nfl] he will anchor the left side next to albert.

anyhoo, back to qb. BROCK JENSEN was signed as an udfa from ndsu [billy turner was his lt]. this kid has EVERYTHING you want in a pro qb. size, arm [can make all the nfl throws and his arm is strong], team leader and captain, threw LOTS of td's and very few picks. has been a winner EVERYWHERE he has been. when facing the bigger schools of college ball, he won. this is exactly the kind of find in late rounds that you end up going "how did he not get drafted!!" he is one of those guys who has "it", that "thing" the winners have that others, even thought they have big skills, dont.

when you watch his feat, and for those of you who watched marino play, they are identicle. that same straight back, shoulders pointed down field and then that quick set up where he bounces off his back foot and launches. that caught my eye right away. another marino trait [who resembled joe namath] is his throwing motion. from the ear and his his whole arm and shoulder are in the throw. no wasted motion. when they show that transposed film with marino over namath in a throw, they look exactly alike. and if they put this kid over them in a film, he would look just like them. all i am saying is he shares some traits, thats all. and add in he won 3 straight fcs championships for his team and is the all time qb leader in fcs history. nice resume.

anyways, another GREAT move by hickey who orchestrated an exellnt draft that will be the draft that started the rebirth of this team. here's more about brock......... .

There’s always hidden gems to be found when the NFL Draft rolls around. That’s part of the beauty of the whole process. It’s a scouts dream to find the overlooked guy that no one really pays attention to, then take him late and he eventually turns into a stud. Whether it’s someone like Tom Brady (6th round), who’s found Hall-of-Fame-caliber success, or someone like Jason Kelce (6th round), who’s merely rock solid, there’s always hidden gems. North Dakota State QB Brock Jensen could be that guy in 2014 NFL Draft.
Look at any ranking of the QBs in this draft class and you won’t find Jensen anywhere near the top. Most pundits have him ranked right around 20th, some higher, some lower. When you look at his list of accolades, you have to wonder why he’s ranked so low. 3x National Champion, threw for 8,598 yards with an impressive 72/21 TD to INT ratio and chipped in 1,240 rushing yards and 35 rushing TDs in his career. Oh yeah, he’s also 73-7 as a starter going back to high school. And he’s not even predicted to be drafted?
Someone is going to get a steal in Jensen. Flat out, plain and simple. Someone is going to get a heck of a player in this kid.
Take away his statistics on the field and look at the numbers he put up at his recent Pro Day. 6-foot 2, 225-pounds, 4.70 40-yard dash, 34-inch vertical, 9-foot 2 broad jump, 4.35 20-yard shuttle and 7.06 3-cone drill. That’s an athlete with size right there. Even if he had a noodle for an arm, that’s a good enough package of measureables to take a flyer, maybe as a tight end, H-back, OLB, special teams demon, etc.
But he doesn’t have a noodle for an arm. He put up prodigious passing numbers for a reason. No, it’s not like he was facing SEC defenses week in and week out while playing in the Missouri Valley Conference, but he still showed he was capable of making NFL throws. Just so happened he was making NFL caliber throws against lesser competition because the BCS coaches didn’t find him. Don’t blame him for their blunder.
Plus, we’ve seen him against very strong BCS-level teams. Just look back to last August when the Bison went to Manhattan Kansas to take on the immortal Bill Snyder’s Kansas State Wildcats, the defending Big 12 Champions fresh off an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl. In front of the second largest crowd ever at Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium, Jensen went 21-30 with 2 TDs and a rushing TD en route to a shocking 24-21 win. Throw KSU with Minnesota and Colorado State as Div 1 FBS teams who were beaten by Jensen.
Hey, I’m not saying Jensen will necessarily be a franchise QB. But it’s not impossible, either. He’s far from a polished, finished product, and definitely needs to keep working on his accuracy. But he’s worth taking a shot on late in the draft, even if he only ever amounts to a backup. He’s a hard worker, good leader and a proven winner with a nice physical skills package. Even if he tanks in preseason, as a late round pick it’ll be minimum financial risk so you can cut him and move on.
But he deserves a shot. Which GM has the cajones to take a risk on a proven winner?

Yeah Brock looks interesting, never heard of him before but he put up some great stats his senior season. He's not really the competition I was hoping for at the position but maybe he'll at least allow us to think about dumping Moore and his $4.5 million.

Quite honestly, I'm really surprised we didn't draft a power RB or a QB. Some of the QB's went in the 5th round that could prove to be starters. Im just not sold that Daniel Thomas can get the job done. We have Knowshon, but is he going to break a tackle for third and short/goal line situations and we only have him for one year so I guess were hoping all these OL picks pan out and become starters to block better? We have an expensive backup in Matt Moore and not one Qb was drafted to give Tanny some competition.

Am I insane to think we made a mistake here? I guess Ill reserve judgement until the UDFA period, but I expected more from the new regime.

Hate to be a party pooper but after watching the Fins for 40 years, I was hoping for a better draft.
well don't need a QB...and we have a bunch of RB's who are as good as anything we could have drafted so I don't get your post

"we have a bunch of RB's who are as good as anything we could have drafted" ? WHAT??
Our RB couldnt shake a tackle last year, please dont put it all on the bad OL play. We needed a Carlos Hyde. You mean to tell me that any of our RB would beat him out? Guess thats why good teams like SF trade with us to grab him. We need a RB who can move the chains and cross a goal line on 4th and goal from the 1.

Dont need a QB? Wait until that rookie salary expires on Tannehill and youre having to draft a new QB or pay a mediocre one. Matty Moore costing us $4.5 M, why not take a QB in Rd 4-7?

We now have a QB and RB as UDFA, and I am hopeful they can contribute...I may be surprised, but we let too many good players pass us by.

Please explain why you dont get my post?

I am no means am a draft expert (barley no any names outside round 1) but all I've heard all preseason is how this is such a deep draft. So doesn't that mean a lot of these UDFA that we signed are basically like 6/7 rounders in any other draft? Also don't we have the smallest current roster in the league? I'm excited about all the young players coming to Miami. Hopefully this new offense can finally bring the excitement Ross has been dreaming of. I'm excited!

If Jensen is the real deal then that would allow Miami to let Moore leave, move what's his name to back up, and have Jensen carry the clipboard. Saves some good money.

I was hoping for a RB in this draft, but honestly I didn't think there were any RBs this year that are a good fit for Miami. I think we needed to add 2 RBs, one with speed and one for short yardage, but I guess they are comfortable in having two 1B backs in Miller and Moreno.

I'm not a big fan of Daniel Thomas but I have far greater optimism in what Knowshon Moreno's can do for the team. He had his best season ever last year with the Broncos, making it to the Super Bowl. He can add value to Miami's running game right away, he can catch passes and he is good at protecting the QB.
I expect him to be our #1 RB and Lamar Miller will be handy to give him a breather. Daniel Thomas may or may not make the roster. He actually ran in more touchdowns than Miller last year and he won us the game in Pittsburgh. He may have upside but I expect Moreno to be the key to improving our running game. He is an experienced veteran just coming off a great season. We will be better at RB.
