Not Another Sign Him Thread: Chris Johnson

Why?

LeGarrette Blount - undrafted
Alfred Morris - 6th round
Zac Stacy - 5th round
Chris Ivory - undrafted
BenJarvis Green-Ellis - undrafted
Rashad Jennings - 7th round
Fred Jackson - undrafted

All of these guys are in the top 25 in rushing this season.

Going back 7-8 years, the first three rounds have produced some pretty solid runners. I know talent can be found late in the draft at RB, but there is a plethora of ballers that go early too. OLine is our biggest NEED, no question. But if a stud RB falls to us in the early rounds, I wouldn't blame the front office for pulling the trigger.

Adrian Peterson - 1st Round
Marshawn Lynch - 1st Round
Knowshon Moreno - 1st Round
Darren McFadden - 1st Round
Chris Johnson - 1st Round
CJ Spiller - 1st Round
Trent Richardson - 1st Round
Doug Martin - 1st Round
Reggie Bush - 1st Round
Maurice Jones Drew - 2nd Round
Lesean McCoy - 2nd Round
Matt Forte - 2nd Round
Ray Rice - 2nd Round
Ben Tate - 2nd Round
Shane Vereen -2nd Round
Giovanni Bernard - 2nd Round
Eddie Lacy -2nd Round
Jamaal Charles - 3rd Round
Shonn Greene - 3rd Round
Demarco Murray - 3rd Round
Stevan Ridley - 3rd Round

We need a young home grown power running back. The new GM needs to pluck a power running back between round 1-4 along with shoring up the Oline.

Want a power back? Look no further than Andre Williams from Boston College. Dude flat out runs over people. Only problem is, he doesn't catch many (if any) passes. That's why I would lean towards drafting a more complete back like Arizona's Ka'Deem Carey (LeShawn McCoy and Gio Bernard comparisons) or Auburn's Tre Mason.

I'm definately excited about this year's crop of running backs, which means that we won't draft one.

Why do we need a power back? LeSean McCoy wasnt a power back. We do need a short yardage back though.

not after he got paid. Its like he dropped off the face of the earth after that.

Over 1000 yards and 10 td's on the year is falling off the face of the earth?

Did you watch him at all last season? He still managed to rush for over 1,000 yards, almost as much yards as Miller and Thomas combined. He also scored as many rushing td's as our guys and 4 rec td's. I don't think he's the answer but he's not some bum who can't play as some here seem to think.

Yeah I saw him. 1,077 yards (second lowest of his career). He still averaged a meager 3.8 ypc (lowest of his career). Aso fumbled three times and opened his mouth just about every week and was called out on multiple occasions by teammates for his lack of effort. No thanks. He'll come here and waste a roster spot.

Also he had a pretty good OL in TN and thats all he could muster. Imagine if he was running behind our OL, its a virtual garuantee he wouldnt come close to 1,000 (not to mention going up against great defenses in the Bills and Jets twice a year.

His mouth alone, putting blame on everyone else but himself, makes him a horrendous signing.

My thoughts exactly. If he comes cheap he would fit our scheme. Titans need a power running back they didn't use CJ properly and their O-Line is garbage. He has never rushed for under 1,000 yards a season and last year alone he had 6 Rushing TDs and 4 receiving TDs. He still has the burst. 4.24 speed at 28 is probably at a 4.4 which is still faster then most (I'm spitting speculation I have no real science behind this so relax), just saying.

Again, exactly. CJ is the original Shaddy. He was that stop-n-go/shifty RB before McCoy. Titan's offense hasn't really complimented CJ outside of 2009 when they had a passing game and THREE monster TEs (Scaife, Crumpler, and Cook). He can catch out of the back field, excels in draw plays and screens, and can bust one out at any moment w/out getting caught from behind. I don't agree with people that say Tate is a better option than CJ. Tate is a product of a great running offense. I'm not saying CJ is the best option but depending on the price tag he would really strive in the West Coast Offense. Cut Thomas - Pick Up CJ.

This year was Knowshon's first 1000-yard season. He was drafted in 2009. He has just as many 1000-yard seasons as Ronnie Brown.

Darren McFadden also has one 1000-yard season in 2010. Six season's in the league and all of them he's missed games because of injury. Huge disappointment for such a high draft pick.

C.J. Spiller has one 1000-yard season in his 4 season's in the league. Still primarily an off-tackle RB who has never carried the ball more than 207 times in a season. He's good when splitting carries but will never be a 25-carry per game RB in the NFL. Drafted entirely too high IMO but at least he is a home run threat.

Trent Richardson shouldn't even be on this list. Trent Richardson...to this point in his career...sucks. You'd be hard pressed to find an Indy fan right now that still thinks that was a good trade.

Reggie Bush is still hurt too often. I think durability should play a factor in being a top RB in this league and Bush is not durable...which means his not reliable.

Ben Tate is overrated.

Shane Vereen has done nothing. Only reason anybody knows his name is because he plays for the Patriots but he's never been higher than 3rd on the Pats depth chart. This year he's behind Ridley and Blount, last year he was behind Ridley and Whitehead.

Shonn Greene is another guy who's not done anything in this league.

I don't think you need to look for a RB in the first 2 rounds. I think the right place to find one is in rounds 3-6.

I just saw this posted on rotoworld: The Titans are going to cut CJ2K.

Chris Johnson - RB- Titans:

The Nashville Tennssean still fully expects the Titans to release Chris Johnson.

Per beat writer Jim Wyatt, it's not a matter of "if" Johnson is released, but "when." Johnson is scheduled to earn $8 million in 2014, a year after he posted 1,077 yards rushing and a 3.86 YPC mark. He also wasn't 100 percent "in" games, as his effort appeared to come and go. The Titans want to use Shonn Greene more next season and will likely get a similar player to Johnson to complement him, just one that is younger and much cheaper than Johnson. CJ?K won't have trouble finding another job, but he's likely going to be unhappy with the monetary value of the offers he receives. He still has some juice in his legs.

Now, I hate these kind of threads but I really think he could help this team. I think he still has a lot left in the tank and a 28 yr old CJ is better than a young Miller/Thomas. He has that home-run threat that we need out of the backfield to keep teams honest. Sign him and bolster the OLine through the draft and we may have a chance at playoffs.

A thread that's a "Not another sign him" thread that's actually a "Let's sign him" thread.
