Not defending Ireland but...

Would you keep a manager for your business if it just broke even every year?

Wow this did not make sense. We are talking about a Football team that coaches (not GM) coach the team. You're talking about a Manager that pretty much is the coach of the business lol. Come on dude.

The problem is most Ireland supporters are only looking at this year. I for one can't excuse the numerous years before this when he has absolutely failed on every front to produce a good team. We have the same problems every year and he simply doesn't have what it takes to get the job done. I admit I appreciate some of the things he did this year, but in arguably his biggest splash, he still couldn't put a playoff team on the field. Twist it anyway you want as reasons they didn't make the playoffs, but the fact remains.

I don't understand why all the blame? OK I understand the offensive line but come on if we would of taken a 1st round Oline we would be calling for his head. Instead he did something that no one expected. Traded to the 3rd pick for particularly nothing and got a great OLB/DE prospect which we needed that help.

We needed WR help he brought us Mike Wallace and Gibson. I understand Wallace was overpaid but that FA was weak for a #1 receiver.

We need a seam threat TE brought in Keller but got hurt.

A probowl CB he cut Marshall, kept Patterson (if healthy would of been probowler too) and signed Grimes.

Now we come to the Oline. You drafted Martin which was projected a late 1st by most. You took BPA that year. We had no idea about him being a p***y. We signed Clabo which was a probowler and rated very highly last year (noone knew he would suck it up this year). We needed help at the OL and traded for Mckinnie.

Now the Fireland crowd will say he didn't fix the OL issue this offseason or during the season. How are you supposed to fix it? Trade? then we will be calling for his head. Draft? Then we would be calling for his head.

For the record I am pro-Ireland but if he were to get fired I wouldn't mind either. I personally think this year was one of the first year we didn't have so many damn holes lol. We were a few plays from going to the playoffs with a 10-6 or even 11-5 record. People forget when we played good football we beat Bengals,Colts, Pats, SD and almost beat the Pats (bad reffing) and Panthers (Horrible defensive stand!).

We also lost to the Bucs, Jets, Bills twice. No holes really. The line needs 4 starters. We have no one at TE that has shown they can block at all. We have no depth at linebacker and actually got weaker.

You can't look at this from a drawing board approach because that is like saying I thought Tim Couch would be a great QB. The fact is that his attempts to fix the O-line have not worked and his LB moves not only cost us money, but also backfired badly! Also, we in essence traded 2 second rounders for 2 third rounders in Marshall. His struggles in the 2nd and 3rd round of the draft are absolutely unacceptable. The only moves he made this past year that really paid any dividends were Wallace and we paid a lot of $$$$$ for what we got and Brent Grimes, which was more of a hope for the best move. The Dion Jordan move had me shaking my head because although he might turn out great, we had other glaring issues to trade up for a player that was hurt and barely contributed.

Ireland just does not have an eye for talent to be even a descent GM and our records over the last 5 years, struggles in the O-Line, inability to stop the run, or run ourselves shows that. This team talent wise is not as good as last year, except at receiver and 1 spot at DB.

Who manages the managers/coaches in any business? When your business blows you don't fire the regional manager, you fire his boss. A CEO doesn't tell a welder hiw to weld, he tells the managers. If you don't make this connection then you deserve Ireland.

I was going to say the same thing. The OP says he is not defending Ireland and then in the same post says he is a pro-ireland guy. Sure sounds like he is defending him. Ireland is a guy who, in 2013 who's first 5 draft picks, 1 1st, 2 2nds, 3 3rds, aside from sparing time from Jordan, did not contribute at all. One of which was inactive for every single game for a position that was one of the weakest in the NFL. Yeah... OP doesnt understand all the Ireland hate although he puts together 7-9 teams consistently every year.

So you're not defending Ireland except when you are defending Ireland?

Alright.

He should have drafted fror Albert in the offseason. But according to Ireland Jamar Taylor > Brandon Albert. Reminds me of Wanny saying what can Trent Green do that Jay Fielder cant.

Ireland should have signed Mckinnie in the preseason. He's had time to fix things, time to move on from him.

The list just goes on and on. I mean realistically there is no reasonable argument that can effectively convince anyone that Ireland should not be canned. Only those who are satified with the current stat of the Dolphins see no issue with Ireland. Its so laughbale
I'll list some blame points -

- multiple years to construct an OL and we don't even have a "serviceable' one
- a very weak yet expensive LB corps
- his drafting / handling of the RB position
- he drafts positions / players too high - Daniel Thomas, Dallas Thomas, Egnew, and I could go on
- extreme focus and I'd assume resource allocation on finding "acorns" instead of having a firm grasp on who presents quality in round 1 - 5.

I have a similar stance as you. People also complain about our rookies not getting any playing time.. Well thats because our 2 Cbs were behind a Pro Bowler in Grimes. A potential Pro Bowler in Patterson.. And a 5th round pick in Carroll who stepped up big time and had a good season. Also 7th pick Wilson played very well as a nickle for us. So there really wasnt a spot for Taylor and Davis to play as rookies. They will develop hopefully and make a bigger impact next season.

Dion Jordan was brought here to play DE. Oliver Vernon (another Ireland pick) Was playing great all season.

I agree with the LIne. He tried to bring back Long , but he went else where. Had to go in with Martin. Pouncy was a stud, Incog was a pro bowler. Clabo was a pro bowler. Board was 50-50 split on Martin starting. Many people wanted him too. He was a good pick when he was drafted because he was slated as a first rounder like you said.

Offense would have been much better if we had Keller. He would have made a huge difference. Losing Gibson early hurt too. ANd Tannehill not being able to connect with Wallace easily left a minimum of 4 tds off the board. Not Irelands fault.

Philbin didnt want a FB when we definitely could have used one this year. He wanted to get quicker @ the linebacker position, which we did and it hurt us... I think its too easy to place the blame on the GM. Which is what everyone is doing.

Now if Ireland gets fired will i be in outrage? No.. THere are other Gms out there... but i think he should be given another year seeing how he put together a playoff team, which the players and coaches choked at the end of the season against our 2 worst division rivals.

Patterson a potential Pro Bowler?

I agree keep Jeff Ireland, Philbin didnt want brandon Marshall because he had a strong personality didn't want Bush,Dansby and Burnett cause the had strong personality Philbin dont like that so Jeff ireland got him Ellerbe and Wheeler yes man.
