Didnt see this posted. Surtain is 100% correct. I love seeing our former superstar players keying in on the failure that is Phailbin and how he is single handedly ruining the team.

With the Dolphins spending piles and piles of money this offseason and getting off to a lackluster 1-2 start, there are plenty of people wondering about the leadership of coach Joe Philbin.
But one former Dolphin’s not sure it’s his job to do what’s needed, or whether he’s able to.
According to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, former Dolphins cornerback Patrick Surtain said during a Q and A at a Touchdown Club event that players had to step up and take on the leadership role the way Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor did on the teams he played for.
At the same time, he said the current Dolphins team was a reflection of Philbin.
They’re taking on the personality of the head coach right now,” Surtain said. “Something has to change. It has to come from a player in the locker room.”
Asked if Philbin was the right coach for the Dolphins, he replied: ““I don’t know if there is a message. What’s the message? He’s not that vocal guy like a Jim Harbaugh or a guy like that. . . .
“Jimmy [Johnson] had us on pins and needles. You had to perform or you were out the door.”
The Dolphins knew Philbin wasn’t that kind of coach when they hired him, and his sense of balance seemed the appropriate move after the bluster of Tony Sparano. Now that the Dolphins are underperforming, the pendulum is swinging the other way, and people want to see a guy yell and scream.
That’s unlikely with Philbin, who has kept a measured demeanor throughout his time there. But if losses pile up, opinions like Surtain’s won’t be unusual.

Why does it always have to be an extreme? How about just a good football coach who can assemble a competent staff?

Personally I think the relationship between GM and coach is even more important than the coaches staff. If the GM can't acquire the right kind of talent for the coach then no amount of quiet demeanor or screaming and yelling is going to make a difference. Successful organizations have a GM and coach that are in unison. Before we get rid of the coach we need to sweep this front office clean. Get rid of the "Football Operations" position and hire a GM that will put his own coach in place.

That's what they're doing...just delayed by a year because of Ross' brain fart after the Vikings game....the whole point of the Tannenbaum hire was for him to do that. Just because we may not like his choice for coach (Mangini probably) doesn't mean that unison is not the plan.

Agree 100%, people see one coaches approach and if it fails, the fanbase always thinks we need the exact opposite, when in-fact, we just need someone that knows how to coach! The demeanor(sp?) is not really the issue.

Tannenbaum is part of the problem not part of the solution.

It's nice to see someone give a **** about this team. It really doesn't seem current players or coaches do.

Beyond me how there can even be a debate at this point???

Philbin is a "disease" that needs to be eradicated.

When one of your limbs becomes gangrenous
you chop the SOB off!

Delay = more loss and misery.

But wait, at least we're "best in breed" that way!

BNF.

We may all believe/suspect that but he hasn't had much time to prove us right.

If Mangini is his answer for the new HC then it's the wrong answer and he's the wrong freakin guy for the job...period.

I don't want that tainted Jet anywhere near this organization. He was part of the issue in New York and he'll be part of the issue here.

You do remember where Stephen Ross is from, correct? This whole organization is filling up with tainted Jets.

Tanenbum sucks alright plain and simple he will only destroy this team further and needs to go period. Once a loser always a loser , fast talking salesman with no football knowledge. Throw all the garbage out.

Yeah and that's the wrong organization to want to emulate.

What has he done with the dolphins that's the problem?

So we need Tannenbaum to fail here like he failed in New York before we call him part of the problem? Is this anything like holding on to Jeff Ireland for 6 years before people we're finally convinced he was terrible at his job when some of us saw it by year two?
