Now that Ireland is staying, his first move should be...

trade 2nd and 3rd round picks for players cause god knows we will screw it up

I'm going to watch the 2014 draft from behind my hands - like a girl watching a horror movie. You'd have to try to screw it up - given the depth and talent at positions that we actually need. It shouldn't be a difficult draft to execute. Just don't get cute, Jeff.

1. Resign Grimes and Soliai or Starks and maybe Jerry and Big Mac if they can get them on the cheap (the rest of the FA's can walk).
2. Sign Brandon Albert or Jimmy Graham
3. draft o-line, LB help/depth, TE seem threat and FS

That is the perfect offseason.

You will not sign Grimes for cheap, coming back from injury he had to take less money and a 1yr contract to prove himself...he did, the guy is going to get paid, either we pay him or someone else will....we are in the middle of a championship run and should not be talking contracts with anyone, hopefully he likes it here and we offer him a big cap friendly deal after the season and he accepts......the notion that he would sign a contract lower than his market value in week 15 is foolish.....

Fly a plane over the stadium with a banner that says "get real"

Not a given he stays ... but if he does, his very first move should be to hire an assistant GM who knows Cornfed boys and linebackers.

Tag Grimes.....then OL

Tagging Grimes is like $11 million against the cap, that would take nearly a 3rd of our cap space and pretty much limit what you can offer to re-sign Soliai/Starks who is the other priority. Then you have Clemons, Carroll, and McKinnie who are all key players right now and will be free agents. Soliai is making $7.375 million, Starks $8.45 million, Clemons $2.75, Carroll $677,939 and McKinnie $3.2 million.

Lets say we re-sign Soliai at $8 million, Carroll at $2 million, Clemons at $2.8 million and McKinnie at $4 million...that's $16.8 million of the reported $38 million in cap space. $21.2 million left and you tag Grimes...that takes you down to about $10 million in cap space....roughly $3 million for the rookie class....you're down to $7 million without restructuring contracts. That's means you have maybe enough money left for two free agent lineman and you're done.

Also, as much as I love Grimes, he will be 31 in July so you need to be smart with the money. He's worth every bit of a $7 - $8 million dollar contract but not $11.2 million that the tag brings.

Ireland staying depends on playoffs. If the team fails to preform then kick him out. He's found so diamonds in the roughs (reshad jones,Chris Clemons, jimmy Wilson, carrol, looks like rishad Mathews, brenner could be a potential starter next year) hit some good high round picks (tannehill,Vernon, odrick) and free agent signs ( Wallace,Gibson, grimes) overall he's put together the entire team since 08 but how long is too long to wait. Any talent found (wake) could be attributed to him but also any flaws can be his as well. This is his 5th year and maybe only 3rd after taking away parcells calling shots but still if they don't at least make the playoffs then I don't see him staying.

Patterson is still signed through next year at $5.4 Million.

I don't see him coming back with his injury troubles. Played great when he did but we could save 4 mil by cutting him and that could mean half of a superstar offensive linemen. Risk another year on Patterson or half of a Brandon Albert per year contract? Resigning Nolan carrol and grimes is a must as well. Also been extremely impressed with Clemons, however none of this reshad jones big contracts. Give Clemons a decent contract maybe 4 year/19 mil?

Who said Ireland was staying? Last I heard he wasn't told his job was safe.

Honestly, even if we make the Super Bowl, I still say we cut him. I would rather find a GM that is more in line with Philbin's line of thinking and coaching than keep a guy who would rather have it his way at the expense of the team.

I'm one of the few who thinks Ireland is above average in drafting, the teams problems have been QB play, when this team has a QB they win, now that we have a QB, I have no problem with Ireland and his piss poor people skills staying on, two things I hated about him was not finding a better option at LT when you knew the mindset of Martin early in training camp and letting the bully gate get out in public (should have let Philbin cut Richie after the golf incident).....when he drafted RT we all agreed his play will determine Ireland fate.....happy to say RT saved his job.....

With a QB look at how well the skill players are playing, makes him look like a genius

Finally someone speaking with some sense. A 31 year old CB, with a injury history...should be proceed with caution. Ireland and company would be smart to bring Grimes back, at a respectable number. Be smart with what you have and don't over spend for what you want.
