Number one pic here we come

it all comes down to a qb who can take over and run the offense. Heck even David Woodly was able to take control and win. The two most important things are Good coach and good (not even great) QB.

If we have the number one overall TRADE DOWN!!! Trade down 6-8 spots for a 2nd this year and first next. Then guess what TRADE DOWN AGAIN... to the middle of round one netting another 3rd, and draft Orton. Go get a RB with the 2nd, (The Caddys backup his name escapes me right now, TA McLendon, or Frank Gore) a DT with the first 3rd, and a RG with the other.

Now if Ricky comes back then trade him to the Raiders for a 2nd and 5th this year and a 1st next year. That would give us 3 first round draft picks in 2006. With the 2nd from the Raiders go get BPA, or combine the two 2nd round picks to go get Benson.

yeah baby!! QB!!

Lots of options it looks like: Orton, Walters, guy from Cal, Leinart, and yeah, Leak too.

We'll be top 3 at least.

Either stick all our eggs in one basket and draft Leinart.

Or trade down a few spots and grab Alex Barron or Cedric Benson

I think at this stage, you can't say that Miami will be looking at a QB. No-one in their right mind would give up a 2nd round pick for Feeley and then consign him to the annals of history after week3, especially with no blocking and thus no running game. To be honest, Matt Hasslebeck looked just as bad as Feeley does now, when he started at Seattle, but there are a lot of comparisons between the two.

The bottom line is that this team will not be making the playoffs anytime soon, thus it's imperative to make sure that Feeley stays the starter so we can gauge whether or not he is the right man for the job long term.

If he isn't, then Aaron Rodgers, Dan Orlovsky, Charlie Whitehurst, Matt Leinart, Kyle Orton, Charlie Frye, etc all become options. But remember, not many GM's would give up a 2nd round pick for a QB and then ditch him after a season.

Will it be TB? Cedric Benson, Marion Barber, Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, Dontrell Moore, Eric Shelton are all good options, although top 10 is questionable for all but Cadillac and Benson probably. Whoever mentioned Gore.....he's too injury prone to ever be considered this high.

It's unlikely to be a WR or a TE and if you look at the OL and the money invested, picks invested, then you have to wonder about T. Alex Barron or Jammal Brown or Logan Mankins, make a lot of sense. For me Ben Wilkerson makes the most sense, but not in the top 10. A player I have loved since his freshman season is Elton Brown at Virginia, one of the best guards I have scouted in years and who would make tremendous sense at RG, with Hadnot at OC and Jeno James at LG. That would give you a massively powerful interior. Brown is as mobile a G as I have seen in years.

Thus, despite the woes of the offense, you have to look at Rodrique Wright at DT or Antajj Hawthorne, or a DE like David Pollack or Mathias Kiwanuku or Dan Cody or one of the drafts "SPECIAL" players in Texas LB Derrick Johnson. The DT corps on our team is old, weary and in the case of Larry Chester, coming off a serious injury. You could also make a case for drafting Antrell Rolle and playing him and Will Poole at corners and shipping out both Surtain and Madison

Unfortunately, this draft doesn't look to have a caseload of "superstars" in its midst. But it all depends on what the new HC wants to do and what he sees from the talent on the current roster.

Unfortunately...

this is not the best draft year...

But, Clump is probably right...trade down and accumulate extra picks...this is going to take a few years to fix anyway.

However, I think if possible you have to try and get a stud OL or QB prospect out of this draft if one is available...

What would be ideal is if you could get Leinart or Walters late in the top 10.

Also,if Williams is declared a free agent(due to bankruptchy), the NFL should mandate that Miami gets a compensation 1st round pick.

Getting a 1st rounder won't happen. The guy retired, that's it. The league isn't about to step in and garnish us with a #1 pick. And teams aren't giving up a #1 for Ricky's rights either. If we got a 5th rounder for his rights I would be surprised.

Nope, never had the 1st pick.

Actually yes we did! In our inaugural year, 1966, we had the first and second picks of the AFL draft. With the first selection we took Jim Grabowski, FB, Illinois. He promptly signed with Green Bay of the NFL and had a good carrer as Jim Taylor's replacement. With the second pick we took "franchise" QB Rick Norton, Kentucky.

Norton was with us from 66 to 69. He attempted 377 passes, completed 156, a 41.4% completion rate, for 1751 yards. He had 6 TD's and a whooping 30 interceptions and has a lifetime QB rating of 28.1! For a comparison that's 50 points lower than Fiedler's coming into this season.

Since then we have picked in the top ten 5 times with these results:

1967- Bob Griese 4th
1968- Larry Csonka 8th
1989- Sammie Smith 9th
1990- Richmond Webb 9th
1992- Troy Vincent 7th

All the rest of these picks came in the common or combined draft, so no we never did have a number one in the present scenario.

Point is we will be a top 5 pick this year but no matter how it shakes out we in no way could even beat the Cardinals right now.
If you don't think we draft QB in this draft your crazy cause this franchise has mortgaged our future for Ricky and somewhat for AJ because he was a gamble when others would have been available with no compensation needed but we got a 3rd stringer who has failed miserably.
He got beat by a rookie QB who was making there first start. No excuse as to why he has failed this bad but my logic is he never really showed anyone he was that good anyway but Spiel wanted to look like a genius but now he looks like a idiot to me.
We have to draft a QB and get a guy like Kitna to come in and groom him without costing us a chance at a run next year.
Same goes for tailback, get a veteran and draft a stud. This Oline has to be revamped!
Back to the drawing board fellas!

Why does everybody want Saban over Weiss or Jim Johnson?

I wish we had the 2nd round pick for A.J. back

keep the number 1 pick and draft Leinart or the Cadillac

Neither are worth that pick! Leinart isn't even the best QB in the draft.I would take Kyle Orton in a heartbeat over Leinart and as far as RB Williams is very good but not first pick good.I rather have JJ Arrington from Cal or Cedric Benson from Texas.

We need more picks so please FO trade out when given the chance to make an intelligent decision.
