Offensive line gets shaken up in Monday's practice

Line play isn't that important anyhow. It's all about the safeties!!!

/deep breaths

I am in agreement with everyone else. Why move Carey? I understand the whole, " solidify the right side" line of thinking, but not at the expense of the left. Personally, I wouldn't change Carey or James whatsoever. Heck, I didn't even think McDougle did too terrible. Hadnot needs to be the C and Middleton the RG. I think that puts our best five linemen on the line and gives us the best combo of pass blocking and run blocking.

Depending on how they do this year. Would you guys be opposed to us drafting D'Brickshaw Ferguson or Winston or someone along those lines and then moving Carey permanently over the the other side?

Also, Poppy, where in the Bay Area are you from?

We're going to need a top7 pick or better to land D'Brickshaw, but I'd be all for it. I can see us going after 1-2 OLineman in next years draft along with a QB.

I think that Saban's mentality is that he'll never know how things will work out with Carey on the right and MacIntosh on the left unless he actually sees it in action. Carey has been at LT for pretty much the whole camp. Don't get me wrong, I want Carey at LT, but noone will know what it's like with this setup unless we see it in action.

Absolutely, the only way to build a great O-line is through the draft. It's too expensive to do it through free agency.

I can see why this move has been made, if Stockar McDougle is slacking off. At this point I believe the coaches think that McIntosh is a better LT than St. Clair is a RT, and having seen tape of the Jags and Bears games, I think they're right.

It would just be a real shame to plug Carey in at RT where his pass protection skills won't be as useful. Still, if he needs improvement in run blocking, the right side is the grinder where he's going to have to learn that. I hope McDougle shape up...he had been very impressive before...

From all reports Carey was holding his own at LT, even against JT in practice. This may be more of a case of moving Carey to try to improve the right side than moving him due to any failings on the left. Still, I would think you would want your best lineman protecting your QBs blind side. All we can do is trust Houck and Saban....after all, they make the big bucks for a reason.

Yea, that's what I get. Carey rocks, so move him to the weak area. Tho, does that now make the left side weak?

I know its only preseason and we want everybody to work everywhere but beleive that Carey shouldnt be moved to RT. LT is far more valuable, and he needs all the reps he can get to get comfortable. Bust Stockar's butt to say the least!

I agree this does'nt sound good plus, Seth is still at center :rofl3: now that's a joke

I could swear that I read when we acquired McIntosh, that he was a RT in SD? Is this true?

The bad news is that McKinney still at Center...

DITTO!! He's still a problem no matter how you mix up the offensive line!! I know it's hard to get a good center, but they really need to try and find one. This guy isn't worth a d**n!!! :fire:

Yeah, I believe we switched McIntosh to LT when he came here. Perhaps he would do better back on the right-side.

Count me among those who think this much shuffling is not good for o-line chemistry. I don't know why you put so much work into Carey at LT, then move him around because of others' incompetence. Either D-Mac or St. Clair could have been given the reps at RT to spur McDougle, if that were the intent.

AFAIC, I thought the only changes that needed to be made were sliding Hadnot over to Center permanently and getting Middleton up to speed at RG. I hope today's changes are only for one practice to motivate the underachievers.

I think its just a slap to Mcdougle for the penalties and mental breakdowns last game....VC will be the LT unless Mac blows up.

I really doubt this is something you guys should be reading too deeply in to. Saban himself said sometimes he will change the depth chart and not to read too deeply into it.

Carey, by all reports has been good. I've yet to see anyone, from coaches to the media to fan reports suggest he's been anything other then solid. He's safe at LT.

McIntosh is our "swing" tackle. He's the backup for both LT and RT. He's performed adequately but not notably well under Houck in San Diego. The team might as well give him practice at LT if Carey seems to have the job locked up pretty well.

McDougle being demoted is a message that he needs to take the mental aspect of his job more seriously. I really doubt he ends up losing out at RT. He was a pretty damned good RT in Detriot, and there isnt any reason why he should be getting worse other then laziness.
