Offensive Rankings: Sparano Vs. Philbin

Scary thought? Philbin was Ross choice! What will it take to get Ross to turn?

Ross will be burning money soon... This fanbase can't take much more of this nonsense. The stadium crowd is on life support. It's been nearly 15 years of this crummy team, playing crummy football and failing in almost identical ways. It is tiring to watch. With each passing year I am less and less excited to watch a Dolphins game. If this continues for another 5 years, I may just stop following football altogether. It is becoming a chore.

Ross needs to make major changes and soon.

I wonder what Henne would do this year, with the weapons Tannehill has on offense?

Henne and Tannehill are pretty much comparable, Henne isn't better. Henne was a statue with no pocket presence as well. At this point, I am ready to say the Hennehill moniker is apt.

Tannehill will go on to have a solid career as a stopgap/backup QB just like Henne, but its becoming more clear he isn't a true starting QB.

Chad Henne is nowhere near the QB that Ryan Tannehill is. And everyone here knows it.

I guess it's these are the kind of small victories that Tannehill thrive on. Playing solid football on Sundays? Not so much

Sad thing is, let's see if Tannehill gets 7 years in the NFL at the QB position before we start making these "no room for interpretation" type of statements.

Henne/Moore/Kuechley is a no brainer over what Tannehill has shown us . . . "and everyone here knows it".

I just don't understand how this team has been so woeful at offense for the better part of 15 years, despite hiring multiple supposed "offensive gurus". I understand it begins with the QB, but not one of these nitwits we hired managed to select a QB that can run an offense that ranks better than 15th in nearly TWO DECADES? This is unparalleled ineptitude...

Perhaps one day when I am sporting a long, grey wispy beard perhaps the Dolphins will hire a staff that will be able to put together a halfway competent offense.

Would you look at that, we're up to 11th in total yards. We are trending up. The QB will hopefully trend up. The running attack is trending up. We now may have a competent GM. This is no different than the republicans bashing Obama for the economy being **** his first year in office. Yeah, no **** it was **** because the other guys drove it into a ditch.

This chart shows what had been happening to our offense under Ireland. Its not updated for this year yet but we're 11th right now which is a nice little uptick. And we're not even firing on all cylinders yet, we left a lot of points on the board against both New England and the Raiders, just wait until Tannehill and Moreno get it going at the same time.

Here's one thing with our scoring offense that gives a little bit of hope: In just 4 games, we've already scored 33 or more points twice.

Here's how many times we scored 33 or more points, by season (over 16 games):

2013: 1x
2012: 1x
2011: 2x
2010: 1x
2009: 2x
2008: 2x
2007: 0x
2006: 0x
2005: 2x
2004: 0x
2003: 1x
2002: 1x
2001: 2x
2000: 2x

Now, if you lower the cutoff to 30, 31, or 32, you get a few more results in there but this has been the problem with our team since Marino retired, a lack of explosive offensive outbursts. That inability to just go out there and hang 35 or 40 points on a team a couple of times a year. This year we've somehow managed to score 33+ twice in four games.

I think that's why the word of the day is now consistency. We need to have fewer 13-15 point performances (something we've also had a LOT of over the past 15 years) while continuing this early trend of lighting teams up.

And in case anyone is wondering, we did it three times each in '94, '96, '97, and '99.

So twice in four games is actually really fuggin' good. So there ya go, there's your positive analysis of the coaching staff for the day, something that will probably shock some people here, coming from me. There is legitimate reason to think that if the team can stop dropping the football, can shore up the C and RG spots, and of course, if the QB can step up his game, this team can finally have that explosive offense we've been waiting for.

And we could have put 50 up on the Raiders if Miller doesn't fumble at the 6 inch line and they don't call the TD back on a bogus penalty.

Sparano is clearly a better coach.....if he had RT this team would be in the playoffs....Philbin team has more weapons, better CB and a better QB......Sparano had better LB, OL and RB

The team is being built differently. Its no coincidence we've made it a priority to stock up on skill position players. You can't have too many good WRs, DBs and pass rushers. It was always going to take time to get them up to speed, especially with the raw rookie QB.
