Official Mia/Hou Joint Practice 1 Thread.

Think Jonesy had 7 starts last season (or thereabouts) and was an UDFA of ours the season before.

Looking for that next step.
Yup. I think if he is "that guy" there is no better window than the one he is in right now. He is healthy, he has experience, and he is looking good so far in the preseason game and scrimmages.

I didn't formally grade him out vs the Falcons, but I have no problem believing that he did extremely well in the role he was given. I like him as a player and think he has a role with us regardless of if its as a starter or backup. He makes us better!

I never bought into him. Too small, un-athletic and broken down. He had a good stretch last year beating up on bad teams and throwing to wide open guys in the middle of the field. It was never going to last.
So last year, before Tua was injured, leading the league in passing and was an MVP contender that didn’t really happen? He beat up on bad teams like Buffalo, Baltimore and swept the Pats. How about this dude. If he does it again, which he will, and for everyone’s benefit, go ahead and delete your account never to be seen or heard from again. Folks be warned. Posts like this are from trolls not actual MD fans. I would suggest you block or ignore this troll.

I don’t doubt your right qb play has never been worse/more propped up in the nfl. No one can read the field. But we’ve been tbru this already that qbs ceiling lies largely in his ability to process information quickly and correctly from the pocket. None of his physical tools can carry him.

I’m not looking for flash in the pan stuff I’m looking for every time we show up in your building my qb has the process abilities and strengths to where you’re in trouble. A la largely a drew Brees and a peyton manning. You know contender every year cause of my qb
Except Manning threw for 23 interceptions his 4th year and Brees threw for 3100 yards/

" ...last year is mostly if not entirely irrelevant to 2023."

So, last year is irrelevant to this year, but:
1) "Belichick used to play Brady in the preseason after he was an established star, so if McDaniel thinks Tua is above that he's wrong."
2) But we all saw what happened when McVay met Belichick in the Superbowl, he got f****** schooled
.

When, exactly, did McVay meet Belichick or play Brady in the preseason?

Rong, Rong, Rong! - Logical absurdity detected, logical absurdity detected.

Check for leaks.
Your brain is dripping out; and that's not good. - LOL
Last year is irrelevant to 2023. I brought up Belichick and McVay because of their two different organizational philosophies, that has nothing to do with the past, it has to do with the present (this coming Saturday in fact). McVay started a trend in the NFL of sitting your starting QB, Belichick has never belived in that and always played Brady in the preseason. Hell Brady even played in the preseason in Tampa, after winning 6 super bowls...

Point being, if McDaniel thinks it's wise to sit Tua all preseason while he's had plenty of struggles in these joint practices, he's wrong and should be ashamed of himself lol. I'll go with Belichick's preseason philosophy over McVay's every time. I think he's had the success to back it up as the correct philosophy, case in point when he destroyed McVay in the super bowl.

Tua played last preseason, I'm sure they are just working up to it.

Something about him reminds me of former 6th round pick Donald Thomas.

Old "Heavy Chest" as Ferguson used to call him.

At least during that small window when he was playing well and we thought we had something there.

I too felt that defenses had him figured out. Which is why I am not definitively sold on him after the string of stellar statistical performances he had. This began to manifest just before the period of concussions so any talk of this defensive edge was ultimately overshadowed.
An extenuating circumstance is injured running backs, and further Mc D didn’t help with all those 3rd and 2 throws. I’d feel much better with a hoss like Derrick Henry or Josh Jacobs back there. Both Moster and Wilson are historically injury prone, Gaskin and Ahmed are JAGs. Achane is an excellent talent, just don’t know how durable he’ll be. I’d keep Brooks over Gaskin. The point is teams don’t fear the run, so naturally they will scheme the middle of the field. JMO.

Didn’t sweep the Pats. We lost game 2 with Skylar.

The only thing about Tua that I'm even slightly concerned about... I wonder if the practice interceptions are due to him speeding up his play diagnosis in an attempt to avoid getting hit. I hope he's not rushing things too much due to all the talk and concern about the 2022 concusions. I could see either Tua or the coaching staff saying one of the ways to avoid taking hits is to throw the ball earlier and maybe the tranisition to doing so is throwing off Tua's timing a a little. That's something that could be ironed out in time, but it could just lead to a few more errors here and there too. I wouldn't be shocked if Tua takes fewer hits in 2023, but also throws a few more ints and makes more poor reads this season too
