Major News!
EliteXC and CBS are expected to announce a deal on Thursday, according to a report by Kevin Iole on Yahoo! Sports, that will put mixed martial arts on a major broadcast network for the first time in its brief history.

The agreement between ProElite, Inc. – EliteXC’s parent company – and CBS was reported on Wednesday afternoon by MMAJunkie.com. Multiple sources close to the deal later confirmed the partnership with MMAWeekly.com.

Few details were known at the time of publication, but Iole’s report claims that it is currently a four-event agreement that is likely to begin in April. The premier event on CBS is also expected to feature Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson in an event in New Jersey.

The events on CBS are expected to be two-hours telecasts in prime time on Saturday nights.

Dana White and the UFC have to be pissed about this. They have been trying to do this for over a year and XC beat them to it. For those that don't know the head of Elite XC and Dana White hate each other and are always bashing each other's organization in interviews.

in the commercials and the promos for that ppv they called Andersen Silva "pound for pound the best fighter in the world." it is getting hard to argue that.

training over at top team, he used to knock out wanderlei silva.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Tuesday announced that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, who had been scheduled to make his return to the Octagon against Chuck Liddell on June 7 in London, will instead be returning to the operating room.

Rua has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 85 bout with Liddell due a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury that he had surgically repaired following his loss to Forrest Griffin in October at UFC 76.

The 26-year-old will once again require surgery on the injured knee, but no word is yet forthcoming on when we will be able to return to competition.

“I’ve never seen Shogun so motivated for a fight like this in years,” said Rua spokesman Eduardo Alonso. “This was like a new beginning for him.”

Two ACL tears in the same knee in less than a year, he may never be the same again. What a shame. I was really looking forward to seeing him bounce back against Liddell.

For the first time in the show’s history, starting with its seventh season, “The Ultimate Fighter” will debut on Spike TV with 32 competitors vying for a shot at a UFC contract. This time each competitor will have to fight to earn his spot on the show.

The first two episodes, airing April 2 and April 9, will include a total of 16 fights, either airing in their entirety or featuring extensive highlights. The 16 fighters who win will advance to The Ultimate Fighter house, while the 16 fighters who lose will go home.

“The new format will give us two incredibly intense episodes to launch the season and will weed out some of the guys who might not have the heart and desire that it takes to become a UFC fighter,” said UFC president Dana White about the new season.

The coaches for the final 16 middleweight fighters will be current light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and his next opponent, Ultimate Fighter alumnus Forrest Griffin.

The list of fighters vying for a spot on the seventh season, as released by Dave Meltzer of Yahoo Sports, is as follows: Paul Bradley, Steve Byrnes, Mike Dolce, Gerald Harris, Dante Rivera, David Baggett, Matt Brown, Erik Charles, John Clarke, Daniel Cramer, Tim Credeur, Clarence Dollaway, John Hall, Nick Klein, David Mewborn, Mike Marrello, Jeremy May, Prince LaDonas Mclean, Aaron Meisner, Reggie Orr, Matthew Riddle, Jeremiah Riggs, David Roberts, Nick Rossborough, Amir Sadollah, Patrick Schultz, Brandon Sene, Dan Simmler, Jesse Taylor, Cale Yarbrough, John Wood, and Luke Zachrich.
