Of the teams he's in talks with (Saints, Falcons, Panthers, Browns), only one of them seems poised to win right now and none of them have much of a future (on paper) after 2022. So the choices aren't great long-term regardless
Simply adding a QB as good as Watson on your team immediately makes long-term success more likely for that team. Especially in the NFC where Rodgers and Brady won't be playing much longer and Watson would probably be the best QB in the Conference after that.

How do you know they HAD to let Armstead go? Maybe they chose to not spend 90 million on an often-injured player past 30 because it didn't make business sense to, not because they couldn't figure out how to make it work. 10 years from now we can look back and see what the results were and if the bill ever actually became due for them. But they've been doing things this way for years and years and their approach has been far more effective than the Dolphins has.
They made it known begining of last season. I don't have links from 7 months ago but it was known they were in a precarious cap situation and had to do something to get under when they re-signed Ram. At that point I was beating the drum for Armstead. At this point after analyzing his history a bit more I've moved toward indifference on him, can take it or leave it.

You think their approach is the correct one? They don't even have a QB and are in the worst cap situation of any other team.

My point is not that I think their approach is the correct one or an incorrect one. For me, the results will justify the approach one way or the other. My point is that 'Cap Hell' is a term that's thrown around way too much and is an over-exaggeration. That's it.

True true. Ends so justify the means I suppose, only if you win. I mean the Rams were a testament to that last year.

Cap hell is thrown around a bit loosely, but there if there is actually a thing that is cap hell, the Saints are certainly on the road there.

Watson was always going to these two areas. This is what he wanted.

1. To play in the South (Carolina, Atlanta, NO, MIA (last year))
2. To play in the NFC (better path for him to SB instead of fighting the Mahomes, Allen, Borrow, Wilson, Herbert AFC).
