Official Red Sox '05 thread

This is the point, I'm new here and I assume you're a Yankee fan (so if you are you don't know just how bad he is), so you know that Dale has blown 3 BIG spots in 2 games vs. the Yankees, granted they might not have turned the games around but he is just ******ed as the 3rd base coach.

Red Sox fans can list about 10 times in the past 2 years where Dale has screw up. He was also the only member of the Red Sox to get booed during the World Series announcements. He needs to go and go now. With that being said who should replace him? How about Ellis Burks who said in the past he'd like to coach in the majors someday.

Since you're new, I'll forgive that remark, but know that I'd rather set my hair on fire than cheer for the Yankees.

I've watched enough Sox games to know that this is NOT an isolated incident of incompetence by Sveum. The fact that he's still getting a paycheck from the Sox is absolutely mind-boggling to me. If a base coach is doing a good job, he's invisible, because there are no (or few) baserunning blunders to note. Aside from Sveum, I can't name the third base coach for almost any other team in the majors, which says a lot about his ability as a coach relative to the rest of baseball.

Jeff Cox, Florida; Fredi Gonzalez, Atlanta. :D

Seriously, though, that's a great point. Base coaches are like umpires; if you know their names, it's because they're unique (like Jim Joyce with his str-IIIEEEEK call) or plain bad (Chris Guccione, anyone?).

I greatly apologize for assuming you were a Yankee fan, please forgive me as I know how much the Mets appeciate those damn Yankees. I consider myself very knowledgeable to the game of baseball knowing a lot about the game and players but you are 10000% correct that Sveum is probably the only 3rd base coach that is known. I only know him and Luis Sojo that are 3rd base coaches (I only know about Sojo because he's the ONLY person in the world that could play in both "Old Timer's Day" and also has a shot for a spot with the Yankees if something were to go wrong with an infield position ).

Dale Sveum got booed coming out to his position every half inning after that brainfart. Not only would he have scored, but Bernie Williams might have the worst arm in all of baseball (it's close, Johnny Damon is up there).

That single play cost us would could have been the game. If Millar scores, you have Mirabelli on 3rd with one out. Even if Bellhorn strikes out in that situation, you have one of the best hitters in all of baseball coming up in Damon. I absolutely could not believe what I was watching.

(The only Sveum call that was worse than the one today also involved Millar. I believe it was against the Angels last year. It was a groundball to leftfield, Millar hadn't even touched 3rd base yet, and Vlad had the ball in his hand already in the midst of his throw to home. Millar was sent, and was out by at least 5 feet at home) On the way home from the game I was listening to WEEI, and he was already getting crucified, it's gonna be ugly in the papers tomorrow.

Is there any park in the Majors (outside of Fenway) where Ortiz's blast isn't gone? He crushed that pitch from Johnson, and what do you know.. Bernie catches it right at the 420 mark in the triangle.

Renteria s*cks. I can't stand him anymore. He should NOT be batting in the 2 hole. Struck out 4 times today? Just horrendous.

A couple of positives from today's game. Jeremi Gonzalez did a hell of job holding the line for the middle part of the game. He gave us every opportunity to get back into it. And Schilling looked electric today, he made Matsui look foolish along with Giambi and Williams.

EDIT: There was a pretty good amount of Yankee fans there. There were about 3 fights in 3 sections around my seats. (1 of which was between 2 women  ) One Yankee fan got beat down for talking s*it. Pretty funny stuff. The entire section was booing him as he was being escorted out of Fenway. Just another Red Sox - Yankee game. :D

Yes, Dolphins Stadium is 434 to that part of the park.

It's 434?? Wow, that has to be the deepest part of any park in the majors. That's just ridiculous.

Just about...that's what you get when you play on a football field.

I haven't been to Fenway in almost 5 years... Nobody cares about baseball in Atlanta till the playoffs.

You should definitely look into making a trip back. The new ownership group has made some great changes with more on the way.

Honestly though, if you haven't been in 5 years, you'd be shocked with all the changes made inside and outside the park. This new ownership group has been the best thing to happen to the Red Sox in a long time.

John Henry is a piece of crap, I'm sorry. He started so many things with the Marlins that he never finished because the going got tough. Loria has been great.

I was in Boston about a year ago and saw all the changes around the park.. They were on the road when I was in town, just my luck. If I wasn't a poor college student I would be there all the time. My name on Party Poker is FenwayPark and people ask me all the time why I am from Atlanta.

I don't know what went down in Florida on Henry's watch, so I can't speak for that.

As a Red Sox fan, he's been a tremendous owner. This whole ownership team has just been awesome. The things they have done to make this franchise an even more attractive one has just been great.
