OK guys, I've been very out of the "loop" lately.

After fleeing from the worst hurricane in history that has absolutely ravaged my home town, I am finally able to get back to a computer.

I would really appreciate if you guys would fill me in on some tidbits that I've missed the last several days.

...I saw we cut Ed Perry. Why??? Who's our long snapper???

Anything that has happened or been talked about the last 4 days that I missed, it would be awesome if you could fill me in.

Thanks SO MUCH!

Hometown ravaged and you're back already? That's a real Fins fan!! Welcome back DD!!:jumper:

If you can get a pic of him playing, I will gladly put it in my signature.

That means a lot. Tell him I wish him the best of luck and I hope his team wins, along with him playing awesome.

Thanks a lot!
Hey Fin Fan in Cali was mobilizing the troops on here to get donations together just the other day. He'll sure be glad you're OK. It's chaos down ther right now.

Yeah, like I said: I'm just blessed to have a place to live for right now outside of New Orleans.

I'm really glad I have internet access to be able to talk with you guys.

Thanks so much for the well wishes.

You have no clue how much that means. Really.

Thanks.

All I can suggest is just donate a little to the Red Cross. Maybe participate in a food drive. Every little bit helps.

I can't wait to help out physically as soon as I can get back into town.

I'm probably going to head up when the water resides. Trust me, I know how people feel. Going without food, water, ice, and clean clothes sucks. We went three months without power from Andrew. When you live it, you realize just how many people from other states came down to lend a hand.

Eighty percent of the Car Dealerships in the area are no longer in buisiness, or even there at all. My Company is going to offer jobs to some of the people who worked in that area. Paying all the moving expenses, and down payments on somewhere to live, even if temporary.

We had a drive for the red cross all week and came up with 5000 bucks from 800 employees. The owner tripled it. Every cent helps!!

Glad to see you were not only fortunate enough to have a place to flee, but that you were smart enough to do it. I was dumb enough to stick around during Andrew, and it was one of the scariest nights in my life.

That's right, Ozzy.

And, to intensify the situation, So Fla is not a bowl like New Orleans is.

These poor people are stuck on their rooves. The water is up the the ceilings.

They need our help. No city in America floods as bad as N.O. does. Especially after a Cat. 5 hurricane.

Yep, being under Sea Level meant disaster from the get go. A Cat 1 or 2 could have done close to the same type damage. All the storm had to be is a wet one. Full of rain, and storm surge. Thats what Katrina was. It may not have been the wettest storm but still being so Huge, it brought rain and surge for hours. Things would have calmed somewhat, had the levees held. Sadly, they broke. I'm missing to good friends in the areas hit hard, but I'm still holding out hope.

Welcome, back hope all is well with you and the family!

Lets see, where to start.

AJ sucks, wait, no it's Gus that sucks, no wait, its AJ, no its Gus, wait no it's AJ, no it's Gus.

Okay, your caught up! Hope your family and property made it thru okay!

As funny as that was, it was probably the most accurate thing I've read all day.

Welcome back DD, glad you and your family are safe. Being Floridians we feel the very real threat of this kind of disaster. I hope the Army as well as corporate and private sources pitch in to help like they did after Andrew.

PS: WelderPat's son is a cool kid, I'll bet he gets you at least 1 sack!

I know how you feel man. I have a lot of friends around the Destrehan-St Charles area about 40 minutes outside of New Orleans and I have had no contact, I'm unaware of if anyone is unwell or if they are completely fine. Being in the lurch hurts.

But I'm sure we as a country can get behind this and give our full support. All this looting and shooting at army helicopters, shutting down safety generators and snipers outside of hospitals is disgusting though.

that is disgusting, but it's also disgusting when you think that the budgets for all the levee projects were CUT this year in order to fund other priorities. how much more than the requested money will now have to be spent, and, more importantly, how many lives were lost due to these "other priorities?"

instead of talking about how we as a people should demand better decisions by those in authority, and how we as a people should demand more bang for our taxpayer buck, we get a national conversation about looting and snipers outside hospitals. these things are bad and need to be stopped, don't get me wrong, but there are other very serious things we should be talking about.

It's a shame that authorities become so complacent in cases like this. Not having a storm hit them in so long, they begin to think one never will. The same thing happened with Andrew. No help showed up for almost two weeks. We had looting, and people with guns walking around all over. Then they blame things on shaudy construction to cover their butts. The devastation was overwhelming. We felt like no one cared about us. But in reality the place was next to unreachable. They should have had thousands of bulldozers ready to go, and in Katrinas case, they should have had boats, pumps, and a means to make immediate damms.

There is no close comparison of the two storms. One did all of it's damage during the storm, and it did not last half as long. The other did it's largest damage after the storm past, when the levee broke in two places.

Still more people should have just fled. You never know whats going to happen, and being that they're under sea level, means run even more. I hate seeing the reports. Today they showed an elderly lady in a wheel chair who passes away while waiting for help in a shelter. They placed a blanket over her, and put her in a corner, right next to another body wrapped in a sheet. This is such a tragedy. A very very sad one ......

DD28,
I just got home from work on the left coast and am glad to see your post and know that you and your family are ok. You're one of the most enthusiast, 'glass is half full' posters we got here and it has definitely been lacking in your absence.
Hope you can keep getting on-line in the short term and in the long term, best hopes and wishes for getting your life back to normal as soon as possible.
