OLB Chris McCain

JOHD I think me and you can play better than Wheeler

I'm a pretty light dude. I bet I'd get in the way better for a play before they'd have to cart me off the field. But if you tell me that you can play LB better than Wheeler, it's hard for me to disbelieve you

Let the best players play and put the players that don't on the bench.
Who cares if a big contract is riding the pine? Just dump them as soon as possible.
We need to win games, not worry about playing players that are inferior to other players.
So if we can replace Wheeler and Ellerbe, do it. let them watch instead of play. Let them be high priced backups until we can dump them next season.

I would take it one step further and just cut one of them to avoid the risk of losing a player that has real potential to be a great player. Salary cap ramifications be damned.

McCain has some good skills to work with. I liked what I saw of him, when I watched him play at Cal. He seemed to make plays and show up on screen. Sometimes it takes a little luck in terms of finding a gem during the UDFA signing period after every draft. McCain as a real chance of making the team. I believe we fans may not see the best of McCain until his 2nd year, he needs some further refinement and experience. But in the meantime, it be nice to see the coaching staff carve out a nitch for him on game days.

I remember Awsi say something about being great before equals you having a better chance to be great again. Something along those lines, McCain makes me feel that way.

Wasn't he a top recruit and once a top college player?

People keep reffering to off field issues... I don't follow college football that much, anybody knows what were those issues?

Dolphin management will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into making the changes needed at LB.

I don't think so. Hickey didn't get these morons. If they aren't replaced, it is on Philbin.

I really think as the season moves on these two guys, Tripp,McCain get more looks in games than people may think.
Most likely wheeler starting and then getting sub out more than he would like.
I want to see Tripp,Misi,McCain run with the ones also for some extended time.
I know it was preseason but it seemed like when Tripp and McCain were in over wheeler and ell the run d looked better. But i know guys are being subbed in and out. I know these guys have way more potential then the 2 brain farts we thought would be good.
Im over these 2. Misi is the only starter that is worth a squat. Hope they can show so much that they earn the start. Go take them jobs from them dudes rooks,Let the ass kicking begin.

McCain, Anthony Johnson, Fede, and Tripp should be no brainers. Some might disagree with Johnson, but when you watch the film this guy is consistent. Remember this guy was rated as high as a 2nd round pick before the negative information came out on him around draft time. Fede has been a pleasant surprise.

He was considered one of the best players in the country coming out of North Carolina.

I can see your point, but Wheeler is what he is and what he'll ever be. Im sure the vets on the team can see what we the fans see. There is no upside to playing wheeler, we know what he brings to the table. Put in McCain (rookie mistakes and all) and see what the fins have.

The fact that they are starting to mix guys with the 1st and 2s says different. Likely, they would let Wheeler start because he's a vet. But he would be replaced 4-6 games into the season if they can get better play from say, McCain.

It's not only a talent thing, But you gotta be careful with the pecking order when it comes to Vets. Team morale and the impression of "lack of respect" or "respect" are a big deal. Especially, if you're talking about replacing a Vet with an unproven rookie.

I agree cut at least Wheeler and give one of the rookies a chance.Give Ellerbe one more season and then cut him..

Is there any chance Miami has the balls to trade wheeler. And, Is there a team to trade with. His contract is such a joke. Could have had him the year before on the cheap. And cut him with no worries.

Jimmy Johnson was a championship coach and knows defense. What would Jimmy do? McClain and Tripp would be starting. He would want to develop them, send a message to overpaid veterans, go younger, you name it.
