OLB Chris McCain

McCain had the best ranking in Miami last night, according to pff. Had a 4 plus rating. Will D was next with a 3 something..

McCain will have his growing pains, but I'd rather let him take his lumps now than watch Wheeler go out there and suck anyway.

Put him in, coach.

Would they really start McCain? I have a hard time believing they really would

I have a hard time believing they really start Wheeler, so...

What I meant is philbin is stubborn. We paid wheeler a ton of money. He doesn't necessarily like playing rookies much. I don't have faith philbin will play an undrafted rookie over a vastly overpaid vet

If a head coach opts to go with a guy because he is a vet and has a big contract instead of a youngster that is far better, he won't be a coach very long.

Jimmy Johnson was a championship coach and knows defense. What would Jimmy do? McClain and Tripp would be starting. He would want to develop them, send a message to overpaid veterans, go younger, you name it.

Jimmy Jonson had guts! He send a decent veteran (jack DelRio) packing when an unknown rook from the state of Texas started playing great football during preseason. And he had no problem starting him! Our coach now....Im not sure he has enough Balls to do that!

Was it Jimmy's "guts" that got him 2 extra wins over Philbin in their first 2 seasons or the fact that he had Dan Marino as his QB and didn't have Jeffrey Ireland as his GM?

I SOOO hope you're right. I don't actually care if he still coaches as long as it isn't with the dolphins.

I have to say I was considerably more impressed this week. McCain displayed nice agility, instincts and competitiveness. I was worried he was a one dimensional edge guy, like so many late round or free agent types who flash early in camp and then dependably bomb.

His frame annoys me. No threat of shoulder width or upper body strength, at least in comparison to other guys who have thrived in a similar role. But the movement skills are there. Sometimes he reminds me of a poor man's Kyle Van Noy.

Interesting note on McCain's upside. He weighed in at his Pro Day at 224 and put up decent numbers (4.67 40, 10'01 broad, 32" vert, and only 10 reps). He's now listed at 250 - which is likely an exaggeration, but I doubt it's more than a 10 lb exaggeration - and looks more athletic than he did at CAL. I doubt those test results accurately reflect his god-given abilities. Sounds like a player that is just now actually attempting to maximize his talent.

Like others, I think McCain is a lock for the 53. I think it is the end of Jenkins. I would rather keep Trusnik. He is an 8 yr veteran but I think he has actually shown improvement from last year/

I was thinking the same thing- I saw him listed at 227 and expected to see a guy who's built like a WR at 6-5 227. He certainly looked heavier than 224 or 227- a relatively tall and thin OLB, but I was ok with his size/thickness given my previous expectations, and he has room to grow. My guess would be that he's around 6-5 240, he reminded me size wise of Jason Taylor.

McCain flashed very well again. He has excellent use of his hands to go along with his explosive burst. His hesitation swim move to the the inside is a sight of beauty.

I really like him. Can close quickly and knows how to us his hands very well. He's playing better than Dion Jordan and looks like the 3rd overall pick.
