Olbermann: Dolphins facing Saints like punishment

The fact that this was the 1st team that exposed the seediness in a locker room I can see them doing just that by taking away draft picks just to set an example to show other teams this is what will happen. Sad week in Phins land.

You think they'll even mention the football aspect Monday night ?
All of a sudden a probably low rated game becomes the must see event of the year.

Tampa vs Miami

as the world turns

Ah man. They are going to **** on us. Grand master plan of hate from media and refs... we are screwed.

I chuckled at the dig at Omar. Apparently his lack of competence is known far and wide.

I did not chuckle at the rest of it, nor do I think a punishment of that kind by the league is coming. The Bountygate punishment had to be severe because it directly went against the league wide (disingenuous, imo) focus on safety. At the time the class action lawsuit on concussions was in full swing and -- iirc -- the renegotiations with the NFLPA had yet to begin.

They had to go over the top, to send a clear public message in both cases.

This Incognito/Martin business -- while obscene and ridiculous -- does not violate some league wide ocd focus on player safety. If the appropriate people are punished, I would expect it to be left at that.

Olbermann basically went through the story timeline and even took a shot at Omar's credibility because what he is reporting today is different then what he reported on Saturday.

Olbermann said there are reports and that the team is hinting at firing Philbin. Also compared it to the Saints scandal and that the Dolphins could be hit with the same punishment or something worse.
Omar upsets me sometimes but if Olbermann did say that then it's unfair, the story has radically changed since Saturday for everyone.

But the topic of bullying has been the new hot topic at the moment. So I don't know.

My guess is that at the end of the year the coaching staff and front office will get wiped out and that will be enough to put out the fire.

I wonder if Jon Martin watched the show

Ahhh who am I kidding, 11:30 is past his bed time and mommy doesn't want him up past 9 pm.

Hopefully, but don't be surprised if it is not. If a story gets enough national attention and people feel pressured to hand out punishments it usually comes out much worse then what is deserved. A lot of the time even though the people involved are punished, others have to suffer for something they had no control over.

I think it is safe to say that Martin will never be welcomed back in the Dolphins locker room. I also wouldn't be surprised if he killed his NFL career.

It's a hot topic but it's not a league obsession. The NFL is not facing a $765 million settlement in a class action lawsuit by former players over bullying. It's not arguing about sharing revenue with current players who want more money because of bullying.

And it's not a league wide epidemic either. The average fan doesn't come away from this story thinking that the NFL has a bullying problem. They come away from it thinking the Dolphins have a bullying problem. The concussion/head injury issue, on the other hand, was being reflected on the brand as a whole. Therefore the punishment had to be draconian, to send an unambiguous message to fans who might have been getting queasy that football is too brutal and perhaps shouldn't be played by anyone, as in ever.

They are not going to lose any Draft Picks because this situation is unprecedented. But this case could lead to loss of draft picks going forward.

No. There's no reason or explanation for disciplining and/or getting rid of the coaching staff for this. Keith Olbermann was completely out of line for suggesting it. There's no evidence that Philbin knew of any wrongdoing (or if/what wrongdoing was happening). That would be like firing Belichick because Hernandez shot someone.

Really? This is just the beginning, this could snowball effect with other teams crying discrimination, bullying, mental issues due to locker room shenanigans. And the outcry of fans and players saying we will not tolerate bullying anymore. With that looking into the future the NFL will want to cut the head of the snake and set an example before it bites them in the azz again. 1st in line 1st to suffer the consequences.

This situation is really nothing like the Saints, where team sanctioned injuries to opponents was the goal. NO got smacked down because they got caught, we're told to quit, said they did but didn't, and got caught again.

I agree, but the NFL/Goodell don't care. If it tarnishes the look of the NFL, consequences will be had in their eyes.
