Older Dolphin fans

I was taken by my season- ticket holding uncle to the OB a bunch of times B4 even it became Perfectville. (and for that matter, a bunch of times to The Grand Concourse to see the Giants by his brother, my YA Tittle-idolizing dad, who was in the production end of "the business" and got press type seats from his high profile friends). As a kid, it was more exciting looking up the mountain in hopeful anticipation than as a cynical adult skeptically thinking the only rays of sunshine to be seen are looking back over my shoulders.

My fellow old timers I have a question do you think part of the problem is everyone want it now back in the old days ( always wanted to say that) a coach got at least 3 years just to get his team the way he wanted it. QB sat for the first 2 to 3 years to learn, they weren't thrown in to sink or swim. Now if it doesn't work in a year and a half everyone wants to junk it and start over and all that happens is you keep repeating it again and again

You could be right. I remember some quarterbacks taking about 5 years to be ready. Terry Bradshaw took a long time.

I'm 49.....Been a Dolphin fan since 1970.....How many other Dolphin fans here around
my age, considering what our team has done the last decade, are starting to have that
sickning feeling,we might NEVER see another SuperBowl win?

I'm a decade younger than you, so I've had it much worse IMO. My earlierst memories are of the Fins choking vs the Skins in the superbowl, and then the blowout vs the 49ers. And we haven't...made...it back....since. I envy you guys that were around to actually see this team win a championship, that must've been nice

This thread is great. I thought I was the oldest ****er on here. Now I see there are many others getting that senior citizen discount ...

I am 47 and remember the Phins winning back-to-back Superbowls when I was in Kindergarten and First grade.....I jumped on the Phins bandwagon and have rooted for them for 40+ years.

I would love to see Ross sell the team to an owner who cares about winning. Build a stadium like the old Orange bowl. Hire smart people who can return us to the early days. I don't want to wait another 40 years years to win another SB as I may no longer be on this earth.

Man I agree about the stadium, teams were intimidated by all the noise. Crowd needs to be closer to the field.

Been a fan since 84. Its getting bad. Im starting to doubt if we will ever see a huge game again. I sure do miss Marino.

Im 47 been a fan since 83-84, i have been to 2 pre-season games when i was posted in Germany but never seen Miami play , but i will............

My 1st Super Bowl watched was Cowboys and Dolphins back in 1971 season. I always like rooting for the underdog so the Dolphins were the easy choice.
They lost that game but went undefeated the next season. been following ever since and just turned 51.

It has been a long decade. I used to get upset when they would lose but now I just treat it like entertainment (good or bad). I didn't even watch last Sunday because I knew we would lose.
My buddy from NY text-ed me at halftime. I replied back, Wait till you see the second half.

Most were tired of Shula at the time he was forced out. I wasn't. I was happy being in the hunt every year. We didn't win it all but we were never the laughingstock of the league under him like we are now. We used to have winning records against almost every Franchise in the league. Not any more.

I don't have much faith that we can ever get this turned around after all the sour pills I have swallowed over the years. But without the lows you never really know how to enjoy the highs.
It would be nice to see them win another one in my lifetime. It would be appreciated so much more at this point of my life. 40 years is along time to wait but at least us old timers got to see them win it all. Even though it was a lifetime ago. Kind of feel sorry for the younger fans who haven't been to Perfectville or even seen a playoff win. What a mess.

My second team is the Giants due to my friends from NY. Been up there to see a few games. At least I was able to watch the G-Men win 4 in that 40 year waiting period. Not the same but better than nothing especially when they beat the Patriots twice.

I also follow the local team the Cincinnati Bengals. Lived in the area for 25 years. Dolphins fans can look to the Bengals if you ever want to feel sorry for yourself and our team.
I was at their last playoff win several decades ago. Talk about a drought. I wouldn't complain too much if the Bengals could go all the way this year. They have a solid team and a good chance IMO. Being able to go down to the AFC Championship game here in Cincinnati would be a plus for me.

But I'll be rooting for the Dolphins to win tonight and save our season like always.

Exactly. The fans were right up against the field. They had the Welcome to Miami sign, the Flipper in the end zone, the Palm trees.....the stands were rocking and few empty seats. It all ended when Shula and Marino retired and Joe Robbie sold the team.
