I cant understand why these lineman who are nothing great would not buy into a coach that has coached SB teams ( Hauck with Dallas) and had great success elsewhere. What makes these guys think they know more than Hauck? It doesnt make any sense to me. Im very dissapointed hearing this news. Im also very dissapointed in the play of Stockar Mcdougle. I had high hopes for this guy coming in and solidifying the RT position. Detroit allowed the fewest sacks the past 2 seasons in which he started at RT. It just doesnt make sense these guys would not believe in what Hauck is teaching. WAKE UP AND GET YOUR A$$ES IN GEAR AND DO WHAT YOUR TOLD.

with the way Stockar has played so far, I'm very glad Nick only gave him a 1 year deal

So thats what coach said. I thought a some of the line members had said publicly during an interview. I think that coach is left with that impression based on what he feels are mental mistakes and poor play. I dont think any of the linemen said coach, this Houck guy is wrong in his philosiphy. I am sure they are trying to get the system down, the play is much better than last year and I have read comments from the players praising Houcks methods.

That does bother me also, they will improve though.

Now some people are finally seeing why Saban gave some of these guy 1-year contracts.

With that said, i havent completley given up on Stockar. I think he can still play solid.

I have seen the comments praising Houck also. I just dont like the idea that Saban is getting the impression guys have yet to buy into what the coaches are trying to teach.

Some of the guys are probably just reverting back to their old(flawed) technique sometimes. I doubt its a conscious decision to ignore Houck's teachings....it just isnt drummed into their heads enough yet to be second nature. That will come.

Frankly, I think the coaching staff is in denial in regard to the talent level of the OL. First you had Saban saying, "I don't think that it's ability..." and now you've got Houck implying they aren't playing well because they aren't implementing his system.

Notice how Saban wasn't more forceful in defending the talent level. It wasn't, "no question the players are good enough..." or "our guys have the ability to be among the best in the league." Hardly. He said he doesn't think it's ability. That means it's crossed his mind. Probably often. This is a proud successful guy who makes motivational speeches and writes motivational books. It's got to kill him to concede his judgements on a group of players was innacurate. Following this season I'd like to bet he thinks again, with the opposite conclusion.

Houck the savior apparently is already feeling heat for the lousy OL efforts. If he says the linemen are following his lead to a tee, then either his methods are suddenly flawed and passe, or the talent level is pathetic. By next fall we'll have new blood, and fresh quotes from Houck regarding how far superior the 2006 OL talent level is than 2005.

Best post I've read in a while.

I think they mean by buying into the system means..."they dont get it" or "they're confused!"

And Sabans comments of "its not the talent" was also followed by "we'll add anyone who may help this ballclub"

Ultimately what they're saying is the guy we have are the best talent available to us at the moment. But they arent gelling like they should and have been disappointing. But if we can a guy who can improve the line, then they will.
