CK is even more pissed now than he was on Sunday...

Gonna be even more pissed with the latest development. The NFL just announced that he is getting credit for a full sack in the first quarter of the Jets game(he originally split it with Wheeler). That means he had 3 sacks in the Jets game and has 10.5 on the season.

I just read where OV is not even on the Pro Bowl ballot. How is that? Tied for fifth in sacks and not on ballot?

He just talked about Vernon being primarily a run-stopper with limited passrush moves. And I agree, this looks like something he would be happy to be wrong about. There is a definite CK vendetta among some members of this board...

Too bad, because he contributes quite a bit. When you take a stand as often as he does, no kidding there will be the occasional misfire.

My sense is he is more willing to concede an error than years ago, per the examples of Reggie Bush and Brandon Gibson. Notice I'm mentioning his gaffes and not mine. That would take too long.

Anyway, great job by Vernon. I seem to remember ck was high on Vernon initially leading toward that draft but then soured on him a bit once he displayed very limited pass rush improvement. I think it was a sensible evaluation. Only recently has Vernon developed some dodges and dips and change of speed, and most of it has been inside and not wide at right end.

A lot of Olivier Vernon's renaissance as a pass rusher can be attributed to coaches finally using him to rush the interior more often.

Vernon has made 15 plays on QB recorded by NFL gamebooks, be it sack or hitting QB as thrown, 4 of which were off scrambles, 1 against a TE.

Of the remaining 10 successful pass rush plays, 4 of them came on the rare occasions when he rushes over a guard.

Considering how often Vernon finds himself rushing over guards as opposed to the left tackle, his efficiency in interior rush is way up.


I think CK has always thought Vernon would be a better pass rusher from the interior because that was where he was most effective in college.
