Olivier Vernon: "We're excited. We can change the game and momentum"

Everyone killed for saying Ellerbe was going to be awful. I said every LB that played next to Lewis was awful.

This thread is only two "I told you so" posts away from crashing and burning. C'mon, you whiny #####. Step it up.

I have a feeling the LBs will be much improved, I also see Wheeler or Misi getting beat out by J. Tripp by mid season. I think Wheeler will have a better season, and Ellerbe will excel at WLB.

Oh my bad ellerbee was awesome but somehow Im being a downer by saying otherwise.
You do realize what a Debbie downer is , of course not.
A Debbie downer is not someone that sees awful effort and points it out.
So please tell me how good ellerbee was last year after we gave him that fat contract. We signed him to be our MLB and was so damn good we decided to replace him at his position lol

LOL..sorry D, could not resist.

Actually a Debbie downer is someone that when you are talking about a normal or upbeat subject, will come in and point out the bad on that subject (Whether true or opinion) and bring the mood down considerably.

Thing is, Ellerbee was playing out of position at M-LB, he is not big or strong to be able to take on blockers, and was always trying to compensate by using his speed and trying to go around the block, which usually meant taking himself out of the play. On the outside now he will be able to use his speed better, which will give him a better chance to succeed. He is also not horrible in coverage, he can be pretty good if he works hard enough at it.

We don't know if Misi will succeed in the middle or now, and be able to continue to be as vocal as he seemed to have become, but what we do know is that as a former D-linemen, Misi will do a much better job against blocker then Ellerbee, he's the best LB against the run we have, and has proven to be a much better, more powerful pass-rusher from the middle, so blitzing should also improve.

The only player that will again be starting where he played last years will be Wheeler, and I can't exactly say I feel very comfortable with him, but if Misi is able to succeed at his new position, that will help relieve many responsibilities against the run Wheeler failed at last year. Wheeler is still a good blitzer, so if you help him against the run, he will have a better year then 2013.

My only problem with what you wrote, is that your already calling the LB unit failures just from how they looked last year, problem is with the moves made, this will be a different looking unit. It could succeed or it could end up failing even worse then last year.

I am one of the people that believe Misi is tailor made for M-LB, and believe he will succeed, but I can't guarantee they will succeed, same as you can not guarantee (Because if how they looked last year) that they will fail.

For once we agree he should be on the bench like he was in Baltimore.
I don't see how u see him playing the same position as in Baltimore. The season he had his greatest success was inside linebacker in Baltimore in a 3-4.
We don't run a 3-4 so he is not playing the same position by going to outside linebacker in a 4-3
his new responsibilities will be much closer to what he had with the Ravens and put him in a better position to make plays. not sure why you would think that's a bad thing.
Really, all over the team we are seeing players put in places that better match their skills. The draft picks fit the schemes as well. These guys may not be good enough, but at least we aren't trying to put square pegs in round holes anymore.

For the most part I am going to have to agree with Debbie Downer, I just don't see how moving the pieces around will make that much difference. I DO think better coaching and less blitzing could make a lot of difference. MLB is more about instinct and understanding what is happening around them than anything else and that comes with playing the position for years and years through college and the pros. I don't see Misi being any better than Ellerbe was last year. He will be a target all year from OCs who know they can easily get him out of position.

Misi is a solid tackler, but absolutely horrible at rushing the passer. He couldn't do it in college and certainly can't do it in the pros. He is average in coverage, but bad enough that he comes off the field on 3rd downs. I just can't see his skill set being the answer at MLB. I would rather move him back to where he was, let Ellerbe play the WLB and bring in a true MLB like Vilma, who has proven instincts. Even if Vilma has lost a step he will be faster to the ball than Misi just due to instincts.

I would rather see Tripp be forced into the starting lineup at MLB than Misi. At least Tripp will have the make up speed and instincts to be good later in the year. Playing a DE at MLB just can't be the best recipe for success.

Well you do have Debbie Downer awards from 2011 and 2012 so it can't be a fluke :chuckle:

:threadjacked:

How did a thread about OV get turned into a thread about our LBs ?? lol

I can only base my opinion on our linebackers based on how they have played over their entire career and and last year. Ellerbee has sat behind less than stellar players like Mclain and has played in a 3-4 most of his career. We can not just guess that yes all of sudden he will be good in a 4-3 outside linebacker spot.
Misi is the only guy that has shown he can play at a decent level throughout his NFL career. Sorry if I came across as rude and thank you for nailing the definition. People act like I have been calling out a constant winning NFL team.

Just shows people need to educate themselves on what a Debbie Downer is.Sorry I haven't been singing the praises of a team that hasn't had a winning season in half a decade or won a playoff game in over a decade.

If his responsibilities were coming off the bench I would think it was a good thing at a much lower salary. He had one good season and we went overboard for no damn reason.
He really isn't that good.
