  • The more and more I look into B.J. Cunningham and Rishard Matthews the more I'm struggling to understand why they were late round picks, outside of the fact this was a deep receiver draft. Both catch the ball well, cleanly, and have good balance. The only thing I can conclude is they each had mediocre 40-times. But they both appear to be solid receivers with upside.

I agree, I think both have upside!

I think the biggest factor was WR depth and just personal preference..guys like TJ Grahm went in the 3rd round when ppl like Mayock and Scott Wright thought they would be 7th rounders...So maybe the Bills saw something different in him? So when teams "reach" others fall...We will see who ends up being better players tho.

I have my doubts both make the squad but we'll see. Matthews does have some return ability so that might help him land a spot.

Cunningham will make the team, mark my words. He's an incredible talent who just happens to be slow. I'm a huge fan.

You bring up a good point. Like always, the ability to play effectively on special teams will be a factor in what players make the squad as 4th and 5th WR's.

I was really hoping for Givens/Adams/Wright in the 3rd & 4th round. I was not really jazzed with Ireland's 3/4 round picks as i do not think he drafted to our most dire needs. I will give him credit that he recognized WR talent would still be on the board in rounds 6/7.

As for Omar, he always wants to stick his opinion into everything. perhaps he should just comment less frequently to hide his %&@$#!%%@$ness.

yeah take a look at cunningham's combine performance, it's pretty awful.

Actually Matthews is quite fast...when healthy he runs in the 4.4s. He ran with a nagging injury at the combine so timed in the 4.6s. The question is whether he can displace Marlon Moore, who is both fast and contributes on special teams.

Speed is great, but it is not everything. The greatest wide receiver ever (Jerry Rice) ran a 4.58. but nobody worked out harder than Rice, and you never saw Rice getting caught from behind. I think Matthews and Cunningham have a good shot at making the team, or Practice Squad. It depends how many WR's we go with. I think Bess, Hartline and Naanee our are top three right now. Moore, Wallace and Gates are probably the next three in line?

Why are people attacking Omar on this statement? He raises a valid point. Both of these guys are solid prospects based on the skill-set they displaye din college and both did it on a fairly big stage. Is speed really that big a reason for them to drop that far?

The Tannehill era will be a process. We weren't going to solve all our holes in one draft.
