Omar doesnt understand why cunningham & matthews were drafted so late

For me, the whole 40 time is a joke. It doesnt matter how fast you run in shorts, it matters how fast you run with pads and a helmet on, catch a ball and then run with that ball to the paydirt. Jerry Rice, Derek Hagan and Ted Ginn are perfect examples. Jerry had 4.58 times in shorts, but there was no one who ever caught him from behind in pads with a football in his hand, or adjusted better to catch anything in his zip code. Derek Hagan, on the other hand, ran a great 40 time but could not run that fast on a route or use his speed to get open, with pads on, and Ted Ginn could run to the next zip code but couldn't catch a ball laid on his hands gently ... They should set up an automated gun to throw a football to a spot, and see how long, in pads, it takes the guy to catch the ball and run to paydirt. That is a time I want to know, not this 40 yard dash times. Last i checked, they play in pads and it is a contact sport.

Exactly. Jerry Rice is your prototypical WCO Wr. He ran a 4.58 40 time.

A beautiful example of why our draft picks make sense and more so why Bess makes sense in this new Offense we'll be using.

Now will they flourish? Time will tell, but they fit the mold of what the Coach likes to use.

The fact that we thought they fit our system is the biggest Captain Obvious aspect of all this. We're we gonna draft players for other kinds of systems? Course not. Yet, because they have qualities relate-able to the new scheme we're running, it's no reason to automatically assume any greater chance of success.

I guess everyone's a West Coast Offense expert now.

Cunningham will make the team, mark my words. He's an incredible talent who just happens to be slow. I'm a huge fan.

Cunningham cannot get separation in even the highlight reels I saw. He made his living snatching well thrown balls out of the air. I fear that NFL caliber CBs will be living in his pocket.

I was just stating the facts and the FACTS are that they have a better chance on having an impact then some faster unpolished receivers that were available. You don't have to be an expert to know what a prototypical WCO Wr looks like. There are plenty of examples.

Also, if Philbin and Ireland believe they are fits for their schemes, as they drafted them then i'll take their word for it. They are experts :up:

Unpolished? So every faster receiver ahead of them in the draft wasn't polished enough? Just those 6th and 7th rounders were? Nobody on this site knows what a "prototypical" WCO receiver looks like (at least not on the free boards). All they know how to do is google to find anecdotal evidence of what is or isn't.

I misspoke, I meant unpolished route runners. They got 2 Wrs that are very good route runners.

From their actions, you can conclude that in the earlier rounds they felt there were better players then the Wrs.

Tannehill ran a 4.58 coming off a broken foot. These WRs run good routes, are physical, and have outstanding hands. Philbin has said he only drafts WRs that have outstanding hands. I read Cunningham runs the best slant route in this draft. Bess proves quickness, hands and precise route running make you a starter.
